The significance of last nights result

We went to London and didn't win. Need I say more? Okay I will, when was the last time we won in London? IMHO Last night's result was very important, we could have and given the opposition, should have broken our London jinx. Then perhaps the psychological barrier would be broken.

was it at Palace when Ketsy scored if i remebr rightly , about 4 seasons ago ?

I think it was at Palace, but if it is the game I'm thinking of, it was a Pedro curling special in the last minute of the game......or is my ever failing memory playing tricks "again"

We did beat Palace 2-1 in November 1997-8 with one from Ketsy and I'm buggered if I can remember the other scorer.

Tha's probably right then Softie.....the match I'm thinking of must have been prior to that. It was deffo a 1-0 Toon win, as I said with a Pedro special in the last minute and everyone leave to the sound of "We are top of the league.......etc etc etc"

That was the weekend after we lost to Barcelona. I had flown over from the US to try and get to the game but the connections from chicago to london to Barcelona to Newcastle and back to london for the palace didn't work over the space of four days. So I watched the game in the Lochside (Q heaton lads revival) I did manage to get to the palace game our other scorer was mr Jon Dahl tommasson. One of the few things he did for us.

HA Ha I remember that well, Ketsy's goal was a cracker and JDT's was followed by a huge rendition of:

Johnny Dahl Johnny Dahl Jon Dahl Tomasson He get's the ball he scores a goal, Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Heavy on the irony. God that was ages ago, have we really not won in London since then?

Let's face facts - we haven't won ANYWHERE with any consistency since then. There are more PL teams in London than anywhere else, so we've lost more games there - QED.
I don't buy this psychcology stuff - regarding either S'ton or London - we simply haven't been good enough in recent seasons. If we get the team right, and playing with any measure of consistency, we'll win a few away games in London, in Birmingham, in S'ton, in ........, and just possibly even Manchester - starting Saturday, please.

Shearer said after the semi final that the sooner they knock this place down the better (referring to Wembley) but he could easily have been talking aboiut London. We have a sh!te record there and the players are fully aware of that. I'm sure that had we beaten LO in the week that the players would be far more upbeat for the next London game than they will be.

I hate that London curse. The team go down there, play like a bunch of strangers, don't work for each other, put their heads down as soon as we concede and then that curse strikes again. Uncanny, isn't it? ;-)
