Absolute nutters

Just watched a programme about some guy who went for the world free-fall record. I admire folks like that, but it puts the fear of God into me to think of sitting on the edge of a plane door and throwing myself out. Ayeeeee! There was a clip of some real nutters - about a dozen of them, jumping of a cliff together in the Norwegian Fjords. Can you imagine that? One step, two steps and there's nowt below for 3000 ft. Has anybody done owt like this???

Way back Screach, non techie like, absailing doon cliffs with wet sacking, one display in Madision Square Garden, night performance, officer coming down the rope with umbrella from the top, Our Man in Havana type stunt, tray of drinks ar bottom, he had been for drinky poos in afternoon, went to hook on brolly and missed!!!. BTW I found I performed better on the cliffs at night when I could not see what I was doing. As an aside and I was aware of it prior, having seen the painting from a cousin who lived in Chicago for 30 years, in my local beach cafe there is a large photo of that gang of cloth capped erectors in the late 30`s sitting nonachantly having their bait on a 6" girder miles above the Chicago skyline. I shall have to get a copy from somewhere, my favourite. All the erectors are of Indian descent these days, tanked up . sure footed -no fears.

Buff - I've seen that piccie of the Chicago nutters. Crikey, you wouldn't catch me doing that.

Now, this has got me thinking. Many of the younger generation (I count myself out of that number for the purposes of this discussion!) are into bungy jumping. Just a thought, but could NUFC make any money out of setting up such a facility from the roof of the SJH and Milburn stands? Probably not a good idea on match days, but then again, it might bring the crowd to life! To add spice to the proceedings, any Toon player not performing well could be made to take part. Yes - I'm beginning to warm to this idea. No doubt Nobby would be a natural, what with all this tall trees and creepers in the Peruvian jungle.

Probably the worst nutters I've ever seen are the 'ground jumpers' in Mexico.

In the Yucatan, there are bloody great cave complexes, the entrances to which are enormous holes in the ground. These holes are around 200ft across and upto 1000 feet deep. The caves then lead off this main cavern.

The nutters jump out of a plane and free fall *into* the hole, opening their parachutes as they enter the hole. The camera work was astounding, looking at the ground rushing up and then this hole appearing below. Genuinely scary!

Jumped out of a few airplanes meself, always wanted to try some base jumping, just that the expense of getting to that level of expertise is huge. Maybe when I retire. Nothing quite like the feeling of nothing beneath, above, and all around you. Each jump was as terrifying as the first, loved it. It's surprising how little everythng else matters when you're in that situation.
