Head start for White House hopeful

A man has won the right to run for US president - dressed as a six foot pink penis.

Joshua Dostis, 58, a professional clown was cleared of breaking the law by walking down a city main street in broad daylight dressed as a male sex organ.

When Mr Dostis came across children, he introduced himself as a mushroom from the forest.

"I'm the only candidate with balls enough to tell the naked truth," Mr Dostis said after his march through Manchester, New Hampshire.

"Horns were honking. People were cheering, giving the thumbs-up signal. I have never experienced the positive energy that was being felt on that street."

Mr Dostis, from New Salem, Massechussetts, was about to give a speech to a small crowd outside City Hall about the incestous relationship between wealth and politics when two policemen arrived and asked him what he was doing.

A 17-year-old girl, on her way home from a trumpet lesson, gave a disgusted look and told one of the officers she was upset. Officers yelled into the crowd to see if anyone else was offended. A few other people chimed in.

Police arrested Mr Dostis, who goes by the name Richard "Dick" Head when campaigning, and had him remove his costume on the street so they could handcuff him.

He was arrested for public lewdness, fined and given a suspended sentence. But judges in a superior court overturned the conviction after Mr Dostis claimed his First Amendment right to freedom of speech

They ruled the costume was worn as a parody of the political system, not to gain sexual gratification, USA Today reports.

A couple of policemen wouldn't be enough to arrest all of the Richard Heads walking around our Manchester.
