If you were manager!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Okay, everyones down about the charlton result etc so heres your chance to ring the changes. Out of the first team squad, you know who they are, would you be willing to sell?? And who would you get to fill their places (no zindanes etc as you know we wont get them)

To get started Id sell SOLANO and put Dyer on the right wing. To cover the gap Id liked to see the money go towards NICKY BUTT from Man Utd.

Buy Ugo Ekioghu. Buy Don Hutchinson (his type of balls are lacking in the team).

nicky butt (yuk) would be a good buy - no doubt about it. and ehiogu, but they ain't gonna spend that much. i would love to see a Veron-style figure in our team.

Agree about Nobby, all his games away for Peru and his performances in away games are a disruption to the team.

Nicky Butt would be a good addition but I doubt whether a) He'd come to the Toon or b) IMF would sell him.

Dyer on right wing, Gavilan to support. Stop pissing him about and he'll stop pissing about.

Central midfield needs a ball winning, good passing captain who is prepared to run through brick walls to get the right result and will motivate those around him to do the same, a link between the back four and the attacking midfielders. I can't honestly think of anyone. Hutchinson is not an option. He must have a reputation and be a good communicator to pressure those around him to perform.

Elsewhere I also think we need a commanding centre half who is a good leader as well. Not Christian Dailly!! I think there are too many quiet players in our team. Plenty of whingers when they don't get the right ball or a free kick, but not enough pro-active communication and organisation that could transform our season into a decent one. Shearer can't do this from up front.

I know I am not saying much by not highlighting the relevant players we should buy. I don't care much about the transfer situation spend 10 mill on two players the Midfielder and the Centre Back and we'll have a great team.

If I were manager...........sack WGB...he's dried up.

How about using Shearer in the Central midfield captains role? Lets face it, he's getting on a bit now for a striker. He can tackle and hold up the ball well enough, so why not?

LR,

Alan Shearer is dried up at the minute a bit like your Yorkie!

If he is a GB why didn't he remain at Blackburn?

LR, Sheri, Solks and Cole have all had drier spells than Al with far better provision. If I were manager of Man United, I'd flog your entire defence (apart from Stam).

Buy southgate AND ehiogh....

and bring in Bake as assistant manager. He'd cause the riot we're looking for.

We'd never get Butt, the Mackems have been after him for ages and they've not had a sniff. Besides, he's a poor man's David Batty. Get rid of Marcelino, plus whatever of Kenny and Ruud's dross we can (Brady, Hamilton). We've yet to see what Bassedas can do, so I'd hold back from signing a central midfielder until he's been given a good chance, esp as Rob Lee's back again. As an matter of interest though, John Beresford said on NUFC.com that Kachloul really wants to play for us, and Barry Ferguson may be available.

The centre back position is the problem - Ehiogu would be my 1st choice, and it would be so funny to snatch him from Boro. He may cost too much though. I've always been impressed by Richard Rufus, there was talk of him coming here a couple of years ago and he got injured. Challinor is a novelty, not a good enough defender for the premiership, neither is Dailly. But what about Alan Stubbs? He said he wants to stay at Celtic, but a reasonable offer and I'm sure he'd come down here.

Douggie..you just can't help mentioning our "providers"...yet we have only one...Beckham.

Anyway....the only reason our boys have drier spells is because they don't play as many games.

DB..Newcastle pay him more :-)

LR, Surely Giggs also counts as a 'provider' for Man U? And (when fit) Blomqvist. Sheringham has always been a player who provides more than he scores, and Yorke's game too.

Any idea why Taggart let Berg go back to Blackburn? I'd have thought he'd be needed for cover. I'd have him here while we've got this injury crisis.

Aye, Berg scored for us last season... LR, you are having a larf, pet. Giggs provides, Beckham provides, Scholes provides, Sheru provides a fair few.

LR,

It is well documented that Blackburn were prepared to break the bank to keep Shearer and he would have been paid more if he stayed at Blackburn, indeed he may well have taken up the offer of the Player Manager role working with Ray Harford as coach which was offered him.

Newcastle may well pay more than Man U, but if you read Shearer's biography you'll see it wasn't down to money. Understand you wanting to abuse him for not choosing to go to OT but call him baldie or something, at least it's true. :0)
