A theory: our ground is a disadvantage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Firstly, it is almost embarrassing to have a ground like we have unless there's great football being played and let's face it, there hasn't been yet. Secondly, teams like Charlton come and it's like a Cup Final for them. Our team isn't Man United in either skill or determination and therefore, they get out fought by crap sides who are playing their guts out. Thirdly, there's massive pressure on Bobby to put out teams that can fill the ground just as last season there was massive financial pressure to stay in the PL. I don't think this helps the team at all. Views? I don't necessarily agree with the foregoing BTW.

The ground is proving to be an inspiation to opposing teams but if our lads matched the oppo with endeavour and spirit then the rest would come ensuring victory.

I hope our lads don't walk out and think they are the dogs bollocks just because they are plying in a stdium of that size. The bigger stadium should, in the long term, be more of an advantage.

After all the stadium is for the fans, they pay for it and more are getting into it. It does seem to have lost some character but that will return.

It needn't be a hindrance to us. The last 20 mins on Saturday the atmosphere was as loud as I've heard at SJP for a long time, and the players DID respond, its only a shame that Charlton already had something to hang on to and to their credit they held firm. We, crowd and players, should do what we did in the last 20 mins in the FIRST 20 mins, then the stadium will work to our advantage. Having said that the crowd are paying for right to play their part, while the players are BEING paid to play their part. Maybe they should think of that on Friday when they are picking up their hefty pay packets.

Aye and our lads go to grounds like the Dell and get the shit scared out of them (and probably at Brisbane Road, too).
