Old boys on show yesterday

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

A) Paul Gascoigne. Man of the Match for Everton against Leicester. Very impressive, going past players arms everywhere, exceptional passing and tricks and turns. Hope its not a flash in the pan for the lad.

B) Tony Dinning. Man of the Match for Wolves versus Norwich. Signed on Thursday as a midfielder, was an absolute rock at the centre of the defence. When asked whether he would prefer to play in midfield he replied he would just like to be in the team.

Both very vocal lads which is maybe something we lack. Both played their hearts out yesterday in the rain, perhaps something we lack. Gascioogne had the skill and the vision, perhaps something we lack and Dinning had the courage and the balls, perhaps something we lack. Not suggesting we should re-sign them, probably couldn't but it highlights what is needed.

I could easily forget your Teddy quite happily. Dinning and Gazza are ex-Toon, therefore old boys. ;-)

Talking of old boys. Stories in the weekends press indicate that if the transfer system goes belly up Lee Clark will come back to Newcastle on a free. Playing well for Fulham at the minute (who isn't?!).

As one who had totally written off Gazza, I thought he was absolutely outstanding yesterday - the best midfield display I've seen for some time.
He ran the game - constantly joked with sections of the crowd if they gave him any stick - and Everton really should have won it for him.
Well done daft lad - brilliant show.

I loved it when he had beaten a few players or produced a great pass and would then point at the name on the back of his shirt to the Leicester fans. After they were calling him 'Fat Bastard' all match he deserved to rub it in.
