It looks like OK will host an event on October 29 at Broken Arrow

Assuming we get permission from the Lawrence Parks Department, OK will host an event at Broken Arrow Park on 10/29. The terrain is a city park and a school yard -- so it will be a "park orienteering" event. There will be a beginner's course and an advanced course. The advanced course will be a four loop mass start event.

The winners of the advanced course will be crowned "Unofficial Kansas State Park Orienteering Champions."

We will use the map that Magnus made a couple of years ago. I ran around the map this afternoon. It is in good shape -- there have been only a very few small changes since Magnus fieldchecked.

More details will be available as soon as we get permission.

Boy, it's tempting to skip the North Americans just for my chance to win this prestigious title.

Peggy, and you didn't even know about the appearance money. We are offerring appearance money to any former US M21 or F21 Champion who comes to the event (the amount is negotiable, but could be UP TO $10!). In addition, we're offerring complete room and board (at the prestigious M&M bed and breakfast) and you'll be picked up by a limo at the airport (as long as you consider a late-1980s Toyota Camry a limo).

A quick update...I talked to the friendly folks at Lawrence Parks and Rec today. At first it seemed like we didn't need any paper work to have an event (as long as we're not renting the shelter -- which we don't need to do). But, then I was told I needed to fill out a special event form so "Ernie" could see what the event was all about. They want me to come to their office (wouldn't fax me the form). So, the current status is we haven't yet gotten approval -- but the wheels are still in motion. Look for more info as soon as it is available.

Breaking news -- Mean Gene filled out the paper work and "Ernie" approved it. We are on for 10/29!
