Things don't look good for Luc Nilis

Just seen the following on PA. Shame, he was a canny player....would never set the world alight but was solid and dependable enough. I know it's all part and parcel of the game, but don't you just hate it when this kind of thing happens. Aston Villa striker Luc Nilis has conceded that his playing career is all but over after the double fracture in his leg he suffered two weeks ago.

Speaking from his home in Belgium, the 33-year-old striker said: "I'm hoping for the moment that I'll just be able to walk and run normally again. I have to be realistic, there isn't really much chance that I'll play again."

The 33-year-old former Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven striker, who joined Villa in the summer, has chosen to return home to recover.

The Belgian international suffered the horrific injury in an accidental clash with Ipswich goalkeeper Richard Wright.
