Cheers to all who suggested ways I could book cheap UK rail tickets from overseas. I went back to the GNER site and their booking service was back online, complete with returns LKX to N/cle for only 32 quid which I thought was excellent. A mate in the UK is going to post the tickets out to me - putting an extra couple of stamps on a letter remains way beyond them at present :o))

A word of warning to anyone embarking on similar. DON"T BOTHER WITH THE TRAINLINE.COM ! Bunch of time wasting clueless t%ss@rs.
