-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

He`s right about the atmosphere - it`s a bit deadly again.(:o|

Mind you, sounds like they are being deafened by the feedback on the public address system!(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Strange noises from the bowels of SJP being reported??? Any speculation? ;-)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I can't get the webcast thru wor firewaal. Depending on you lot and Sky (who reckon we're playing Bristol Rovers. I prefer City. In fact, I like them both - I love a nice pair of Bristols)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Lets have a sing song

An N and an E and a W C an A and an S and a T L E U N I T E D

Newcastle United FC !

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Were you doing the actions too Jay.(;o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Poor old Bristol Rovers. Sky also say they're playing the Toffees. Must be pretty hard covering back from attack to defence!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Well Screach Big Al tried to help the ball into the back of the net and failed

Orient are now 'asking questions of newcastle'

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

You need big squads these days Screach.....or so they say...

I know...I still haven't gone cos I'm waiting for all these tossers to log out first ;))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Jay - I wish you wouldn't mention the WC - especially after a few beers.

Arse losing 2-0 at home (Highbury) but Shaktar Thingy doon to 10 men.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I think we should sell Shearer to the Mackems.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Why?

That's hit squad talk that.....

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Okay half time more refreshments needed I am off to look at the scores and laugh at the Gooners

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Henry missed a pen for Arse but Wiltord banged in the rebound. 1-2.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

wassamatta Gav...afraid you'll drop in the postings league again? ;-)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I need sleep. I'm really struggling to stay awake here. Gonna go for a walk befoer the 2nd half starts :-)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Shearer has played 6.5 games now and not scored once from open play. Fer chrissakes, what is he paid for? It's not as if he's spending valuable time surfing the net :-))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Anybody fancy a drink? I think I'll pop doon toi the Oak and Yaffle. I hear it's more exciting there than the match.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Compare Shearer's goal/minutes played ratio to Carl Cort's. No comparison. I say sell - #20M minimum

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Teehee Screacher! They probably don`t realise just how (in)famous they are now!(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I am very pissed off that Talk of the Tyne's promised match coverage seems to have dematerialised...I hate computers...

...but love Carl Cort! Come on Al!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Who's on the bench? Given?? Dan Cordeone. Dessie Hamilton (please no). Coppy/Ameobi??

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Great stuff Jay. That's what I like to hear - a woman is doing the ironing. The lads will be off to the pub soon.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Sounds from Sky like we need a decent striker. Shearer playing out wide on the right???

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Not the biggest Shearer fan then Screacher?(;o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Mmmmmmmm quite Screacher

Those who would be kings at Metro reckon Cort should have had a hat- trick

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Sounds like there's more than just me sleepwalking today/night! Howay lads, wake up!!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I know what you mean Screacher - he does seem to have some `dry` patches - early days in the season yet though, plenty time for him to get fired up! (says she, optimistically!)(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Evening all.

1-0 up and playing well, not bad. Could do with another 2 though to make it safe

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Just powered up the wind-up PC. Managed to get the webcast. Probably can't use the BBS at the same time :-(

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Hiya Wonkey - actually, Orient seem to have us on the back foot a bit at the minute. The crowd are beginning to sound a bit restless! (:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Hiya baldy errr I mean wonkey :o)

Slightly to much wine I will be singing next hic! :o)))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Cordone and Lee on for Nobby and Gallacher

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Cordone and Lee on, Gallacher and Solano off, Wadsworth "doing his nut" as Cordone heads toward his own goal. Oh my. Well, I suppose if we're going to have a 'mid-season slump' better to get it out of the way now. ;-)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Has the commentator been reading my comments wrt Cort/Shearer on here? Crikey - I hope he doesn't read the rest.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

In stoppage now, about a minute left

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Wonkey I need all the hlep I can get

I have to sit through a composting conference tomorrow :o(

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

No, that's the one I set up for you, it's only email forwarding. The one I've got is a POP box from the new URL of the Strawberry.

I can set you one of these up too if you like?

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

cheers me dear. :o)

Full time and all the squad swap shirts

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Well that was the lowest-key ending I've ever heard. Didn't even realize it was over til the announcers started talking about the whereabouts of Shearer's shirt. Rumours that a girl with short brown hair, dressed in black stuffing a suspiciously sweaty b&w top into her bag as she heads toward the Strawbeery are just rumours. ;-)

Right, I'm off into rush hour traffic to downtown Boston for my class. yeeha. Night all!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Arse now 3-2 up! Keown got 2!!!!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Sounds like a good job to me Brad! Oh, wait a minute, the match is over.......I hadn`t noticed! Thanks for the company folks....see ya later!(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Right I am off thew see the final scores.

Take care all :o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Sheesh - last I looked at TV, Arse were 1-2 and Keown had been carried off on a stretcher. Talk about miracles.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Just watched the highlights. COrt missed a couple and "used his strength" to hold off the defender when he scored. Speed hit a great half volley from the edge of the box into the bottom corner (if the net).

But we should really have done better then 2-0. Not enough to feel comfrotable next week. We'd better win against Charlton (who lost 2-1 tonight at Stoke)- both for league points and confidence.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

It's good to see we are back and win the game, hope this will continued this saturday. Good night all...I'm off to sleep, it's 4.15AM now here.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Just back from 't game - accompanied this time by Mrs. Clarky. She summarised the night by saying it was "like watching paint dry" - which just about sums it all up.

Dreary, uninspired performance, although I guess we just about deserved a 2-0 victory. I'm not sure who was more deflated, the team or the crowd. The atmosphere was ... er, well...there wasn't any! We were largely outshouted by about 800 Orient fans. Very worrying.

Decent crowd, although 36,000 now rattle around in a 52,000 capacity stadium. Acres of empty seats around the Orient fans, and in "Fletcher's Fields" - ie. the left & right corporate areas of the Milburn Stand - now entirely designated as the "Library Section".

In truth we were never in a serious danger, although as usual the defence managed to conjure up a few anxious moments - just to keep us all awake.

Our midfield was plain horrible - virtually no movement for extended spells, poor tracking and timid in the tackle. We just cannot keep playing with Solano, Dyer, Speed and Gallacher as our midfield and expect to do anything - they are neither strong enough or good enough. For me, Dyer and Solano were horrible, and I would have taken them both off at HT.

The defence did reasonably well with Hughes again solid, and Griffen producing a MOTM display at LB. Harper did nothing wrong, and produced a world class save in the first half to prevent us going behind, clawing a ball over the angle from a long-range dipping shot.

Criticism of AS on this thread, which was hopefully tongue-in-cheek, is entirely unfair - he did OK, admittedly without getting on the sheet again. At times he seemed to be the only 'b&w' capable of passing the ball to his own man. Cort also did OK, while looking badly in need of match practice, although he and AS were largely on an entirely different wavelength.

A victory and a clean sheet can't be all bad, but I'm afraid we looked a long way from a top half PL side tonight. I'll get back to watching that paint drying with wor lass now. Goodnight gang.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Cheers Clarky.

Nothing like a good match report with the morning coffee. The "silent crowd syndrome" is a bit of a worry!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Clarky - my comments about AS were difinitely (well, mostly) tic. However, it is a concern that he finds himself having to do the job of the midfield and not that of a striker. The sooner he gets back on the goal trail the better IMHO. What worries me is that he wasn't able to do so against 2nd Division opposition at SJP. I wonder if the same would have been true of (say) Henry, Kanu, Cole or even Munchkin?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Yes he didn't score again Screach, but as I suspect you realise, there is more to it than that.

He skippered a team that won 2-0, and IMHO was one of our better players, judged on overall performance and team contribution.

Why he isn't getting the chances to put away I simply don't know, but I'd be far more concerned if he was getting into easy scoring positions and missing them.

Worryingly, some of the crowd around me were getting on his back a little - nothing major, just twittering.

I'm obviously a little biased, but alongside Andy Griffen (who was excellent) I thought Al was one of our best players on the night, and for me remains a top professional in a dyfunctional team, and a top striker getting crap service and thereby needing to forage.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

>>>Didn't even realize it was over til the announcers started talking about the whereabouts of Shearer's shirt.

I think he must have promised it to one of the Orient players cos he took it off and was wandering around carrying it for a while. I thought he might hoy it into the crowd but he gave it to one of their lads. Bliddy camera had packed up so I didn't get any piccies! :-(

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Clarky - Do you think he could hear the tossers getting on his back? I hope not.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Dougal - were you there?? Didn't see you!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

V.close to where my ST is....(ie where Screach's ST is). Got into Toon at 7.48 (foooking GNER - have now not had a train arrive at the right time for 7 journeys). Had to go back to hotel as I was getting milktrain back to London this morning.

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Dougal,

No I don't believe he heard any of it - it was fairly low key muttering. I would be greatly concerned about his reaction if he ever did get real verbal stick at SJP.
