Dwindling numbers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Never mind how many turn up at St James' tonight, the numbers on here looked to have slipped dramatically!

NUFC.com report that we have a Centre Back on trial from Trinidad & Tobago, Lwarence is his surname and he's 6'7"!! You won't miss him at the training ground. Have a look at the article as there is a quote from Bobby about him.

Jeez I hope it gets a bit lively on here today, I'm in the office all day!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Answers

His surname should read Lawrence! Bit early for spllegni!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Aye apparently robson quoted as saying ' he's good with his feet too ' .. thank christ for that , tends to help being a footballer eh ; -) How De- build if all else fails marra im always here if you want to talk sh1te .... peace summit tonight possibly at some neutral territory to be determined by the opposition leader . So there'll be nae sneaking out to see how the lads are deing , and if anyone sends us a text message it could ruin any sanctions pu in place ; - ))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Oh well, if he turns out to be pants at least the basketball team will give him a job.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I think the lack of interest on here is probably because Bobby is largely keeping us out of the papers so there's not a lot to talk about/moan about in between matchdays.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Newcastle out of the limelight doesn't seem right. A lot of talk about Lua-Lua and whether or not he's signed, medical today hopefully then signature.

By the way Dougal I had a look at that Colchester site you posted on here yesterday and they were making scathing comments about Bobby and his frustration about Colchester's delay. About time somebody replied to them I think, or maybe I already have!

Sting I know what you mean in a sense as I am having a night out but it is largely a peaceful affair and not a 'Heads of State' affair like yours. Good luck. One glimpse of a telly saying we're 3-0 up and your enthusiasm for fixing everything will be renewed!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Dennis Lawrence plays for his army side in the T&T league and his team are called DEFENCE FORCE , he should be good!

Looks like Dabs could be out for a lot longer than anticipated.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I'll be in & out all day, but I'll try to keep you company DB.
Interestingly, the Journal this morning reckons BR intends fielding a full strength team, except that Steve Harper is to play in this one. I have my doubts. I reckon this is a smokescreen to avoid any subsequent criticism - I reckon Bobby will play at least one or two fringe players, using injuries as the reason.
I fancy the elder Caldwell could make his first team debut at CB, and Jamie McGlen, Gavilan and Shola Ameobi might also figure. Frankly, I'd leave Shearer out to give him a rest and also avoid injury risk; however, he'll want to play to get his season going on the scoring front.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

On Dabizas' injury, the Journal reckons his knee has made no progress at all. Although a 'severe wrench' is the official diagnosis, he is to see the Specialist again to determine whether surgery is required.
Looks like a long term problem.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Oh - so it's a "severe wrench" is it? Well, we could use him to maintain the team bus if all else fails. Actually, I thought it was talking about Sting's missus, until I re-read it and saw it said wrench!!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I'd like to see McClen get the chance. He should really be making progress now if he has aspirations of Toon 1st team in years to come, otherwise he'll end up at Everton!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

The Times are speculating that Dabizas could be out for about seven months but quite how they arrived at that figure is beyond me.

Nicos Dabizas, Newcastle's Greece centre half, could be out for up to seven months with a serious knee injury. .

This is the BBC On-Line write up about Dennis Lawrence. It is also as reported in the London Metro this morning, although I reckon the latter is a copy of the former. We would never do that kind of thing would we

Robson could be set for another move in the transfer market as he is currently has Trinidad and Tobago international defender Dennis Lawrence on a two-week trial at St James'.

The 6ft 7ins, 25-year-old, was the subject of good reports during Newcastle's end-of-season tour to the Caribbean.

"He's played nine consecutive World Cup qualifying matches, and I don't think they've had a goal scored against them," Robson said.

"He has an army background, so he's got good discipline and organisational qualities in his make-up.

"He's a very nice boy, and we're just having a look at him. He's got good feet for a very tall boy and he hasn't looked out of his depth in the match we've had today."

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I'll be around DB, but apologies if I take time responding sometimes. Things can get busy with little notice - it's probably why I don't get that involved in the chit-chat sometimes - it's like being around a table and suddenly walking off mid-conversation without so much as a goodbye.

Anyway, I'm certain Shearer will play - he needs to get scoring. BR will also surely try and keep the defensive line-up as stable as possible. Dyer could do with a rest though - his form seems to dip if he's played too often. In fact he's often given his best performances from the bench. Problem is that he's the type of character to not take kindly to being 'rested'/on the bench. In YBR we trust though.

Mornin` DeBuilder! I shall also be in and out all day, boring domestic duties I`m afraid. But I like to see what`s going on - all these new players - could start getting quite interesting! By the way, I didn`t like the casual attitude to tonight`s game either - we have been known to become very unstuck on such occasions.

Off to have the cat mutilated now - wicked, wicked woman - also having him chipped.....I wonder if he will make him go faster?(;o)

Good luck for tonight Sting, BTW. Have you planned your campaign? Are you going for contrition or charm?(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

wicked, wicked woman - also having him chipped does that mean, you can use the cat to play copied CD's? Wow tecno-pussy, Gav stop it!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Yeah - we don`t just have any old cats in our house you know! (:o)

Tongue firmly clenched between your teeth Gav? (;o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Galaxy,

I bet all the guys are sitting there with their legs crossed! Tee hee!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I think it's evil having an animal "done"....truly evil....he's only little and should be allowed to get his end away at least a few times before he gets them chopped off :((

I sincerely hope he doesn't become boring.....

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Dwindling numbers? I wonder if Duncan can tell us how many new people ask him for the password to the site?

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Boring?....Not much chance of that - I`d be suprised if it slows him down at all. It would be nice to have one night where I don`t have to retrieve him from the top of the curtains though! The vet couldn`t believe how big he was - and suspects that the original cross was not a Burmese with an Asian Leopard Cat, more likely an Asian donkey! However, that`s history now....snip, snip.....Bye-bye now!!!(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Lots more to say tomorrow, no doubt. This is a typical post-shambolic-display-syndrome week: we all know we can play better, but have that cold feeling in the pit of the stomach that we might be a whole lot worse than we thought.

Can't believe that the sparkle has been kncoked off Cordone already. Dismal days at the Dell always bring on a terrible feeling of lethargy and I just hope we shine tonight, as I could do with a pick-me-up.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

How goes it Softie? (:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Me and you both Softus , ive been like the temple of doom all week , but what would make you truly happy ?? 3 - 0 ... 4 - 0 . I personally will only be happy witha clean sheet , a goal from Al and a couple of solid performances fron a couple of young 'uns .. not that ive got strict criteria or owt .

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Can I add `no new injuries` to that list Sting?(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I wish you'd get off the injury 'tip' Gal , i had to watch that castaway programme the other night and watched a young bull being castrated the other night .. and poor Bentleys saga , and my own predicament has got me focused on one thing at the moment:-0 .. just as an aside , have any of you fellas sat on one of your testes before , christ that hurts ;-d

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

It just needs a cracking start. We kick off, push the ball down the wing, Nobby/Gavilan is tripped, freekick to far post where the ball is knocked towards penalty spot and Speed hits it so hard that it takes keeper and ball into back of net. Toon Army remember how to sing and the game is played at a terrific tempo: like the 2 legs against Notts County in 1993-4.

I have a nightmare of it being like Birmingham last season or St**anage....clueless, gutless, brainless, pointless arsing around.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

I can understand you not enjoying that episode (Castaways I mean) - I actually have a big problem with the treatment of farm animals. As far as Ben is concerned, he won`t even know it`s been done. The only person who will be feeling any pain, will be me when I get the bill - it won`t be far off #100.

Obviously I`m not qualified to answer your other question, or were you just boasting! (;o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

That Castaway programme has to be the biggest waste of time and effort put into anything.

They are not Castaways, good food, plenty of Alcohol and Fags ( Topical joke in there ;0) ). Then in the last episode they only inform us that they are allowing family on the island.

Would have been more castawayed on the M45!!!!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Im not boasting it bloody hurts man : - ))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Sting, any room in that dog house?

It's wor lass's birthday, no card from me she can live with but I never got one from the kids. I've got them now but I fear it's too late. The fact that I wouldn't pass on the game in favour of a meal must have done it. Woe, woe and thrice woe.....

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

How about an e mail card Tony? (:o)

I know where you can find some real soppy ones!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Gal, She doesn't check her mail for months on end. She still hasn't got the invitation for a romantic meal for two I sent, just aswell really cos for time it read "whatever time you've finished cooking".

I've been rushing about for cards & stuff this morning and bought a gold locket and inserted small pics of the kids printed on ....copier paper. I was sure I had some photo paper left for the colour printer..doh!

What made it worse was I realised last night and was on my way to ASDA to make amends and she told me not to bother, so I didn't. Then in the cold light of day her expression could not hide her disapointment especially when I handed her a card I'd picked up from the doormat - she thought it was from me and beamed for a second, then I felt bad.

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Oh Tony, NEVER believe it if we say `don`t bother`, `don`t worry about it`, `it`s not important`.......It invariably means just the opposite.

However, your wife will be thrilled with what you`ve done this morning - I know I would be.(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Tony - I'm sure there will be some posh seats available for tonight's match, complete with hostility package of meal etc. Kill two birds with one stone, eh? If all else fails, you can commiserate with Sting on Saturday in the Staabeery.

PS. If you need a good lawyer, I can recommend one. B@st@rd acted for my ex!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Im still trying to work out me tactics for tonight .. in fact its dominated my whole thought process . As usual there's a few spanners in the works .. firstly that she needs to pay the plumber who is my mate , and she cant get there without me .. 1 - 0 to me ; - )) Then i ahve to choose a place for talks which is difficult because of the loaded gun that entails .. not expensive , nice surroundings enough etc.. Twinned with the encouragement to go to the Charlton game with Bobby and Gav and to get out with the lads clubbing on Saturday night its a ll becoming a bit desperate . I think i like the the lads are there options if i need them .. but id better put on a good show otherwise im right in it bigger than i ever knew : - (( That doghouse has a porch actually Tony , but chances are ill trip over you on the way in tonight .

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Screach ive loved your stance on this all the way through , a total tower of strength and not waivering , cheers you are keeping me sane , im sure ill see you saturday : -))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

So where are these peace talks gonna take place Sting?

I'll pop in and say hello after work ;))

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Just got back from you know where, with you know who! Neither of us are very happy!!!!

Good luck to Sting and Tony tonight, if I haven`t already missed you! (:o)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Just been catching up a bit on the happenings... Good luck in the talks, Sting! :-)

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Oh aye Gav im sure that would go down well , i think you're more likely to get chinned than I am .. your name is mud bonny lad : - ((

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Aye but you heard Galaxy, I'm charming....I'll have her eating out of the palm of your hand in minutes ;))

Either that or I'll ensure you're coming to Charlton this weekend and Orient next week ;))

Seriously man......Good Luck!!

-- Anonymous, September 20, 2000

Im not coming to Charlton on Saturday i dont think ... pleased to report that the peace summit was well attended and a result was battered out early on . I got in late in work today ... Mr Herron was referred to as THAT GAVIN ... hehehehe made me chuckle .

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Result was battered out early and you got into work late.....angry sex eh ;)) great isn't it :)))

Strangely enough I knew you were being a bit of a drama queen and that you had no real problem with her...she just wanted to make you sweat over it.....

So......have you promised NEVER to attend a footy match again with that bad influence?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Well not as drastic as that , and i was only kidding cos i havent telt her what really happened , although my we missed the train and got in a cab that ram out of petrol gag ran a bit thin . I actually think she thinks ur ok ... i ate a lot of humble pie marra ; - )) If i went to the Charlton game this w.e it would be all over for sure .. but im sure i was out with a few clients next wednesday night ; - ))

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

That's not what she told mr in the e-mail Sting. I think she's expecting you to be out on Saturday as she's convinced there's a problem with the washer and the plumber may have to come round on Saturday

;-))

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

aye the rusty washer needs seeing too .. there may still be a way for saturday , but i fancy im more likely to end up in the aquarium than SJP at the mo ; - ((

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Sounds like the `peace talks` went well Sting. So you managed to defuse the situation without total capitulation?(:o)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Nahh i was slimey , ate humble pie , paid for dinner , agreed with everything she said , and made some promises i really wish i hadn't .. including a night out at the New Globe , Go on the London eye , visit the aquarium , Tower of London , and taking me new car for an extended drive to Bluewater over the next couple of weeks . I told you there would be sanctions . Women drive a very hard bargain... i also had to perform like the Russian ballet last night : - )) Just call me gimp ; - )

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Oh go on then GI.... Nah I think you've suffered enough Sting!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Oh dear! Sometimes it`s such a relief being middleaged and mellow! (:o)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Gimp, you'll have to take a camera with you on all your little sightseeing excursions and post the pics when you get back....I'm really excited and looking forward to seeing your bluewater pics....the agony on your face should be most amusing ;))

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Talking of piccies - where are the shots of the goings on at Galaxy's place at the weekend?!

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Ive had to keep those Steph , as there was a very embarassing shot of me with pussy on my lap ; -)

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Sting

How do the Russian ballet perform?

Do you mean pirouettes and high jumps? Or defections? Or what?

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Standing on one leg flicking the second in the air , whilst keeping the third rigid .. easy when you know how : - ))

-- Anonymous, September 21, 2000

Top man Sting - "shaken, but not stirred!"

I'll have one for ya in the Srawb on Saturday - a pint that is. Sheesh, why did I get involved in this?
