Advice on Indie Movies

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Gwen's Trailer Trash Forum : One Thread

I live in a bastion of Christian Righteouness. Consequently, I can't get to all of the weird films I'd like to see, like "Eyes of Tammie Faye" etc.

My only hope is they come out on video at sometime and I can rent them through the mail...bad video stores here too.

Do any of you rent indie vids through the mail? If so, can you recommend a good place online? DVD's work for me too, but a lot of the smaller films don't get on DVD.

I find it easier to get hold of the scripts (generally fairly straightforward) and then invite a bunch of friends round to stage the whole thing using sock puppets.

Our annual sock puppet indie film festival has become quite an event in this part of London, and SPIFF 2000 even got a listing in Time Out.

i belong to netflix, which i think is pretty great. you rent dvds by mail, you can keep them as long as you want (there's just a limit on how many you can have out at one time), and they come in pre-paid mailers ready to return. the selection isn't the greatest on earth, but i've recently seen Mystery Train, Happy Together, Bottle Rocket, Trees Lounge and Repo Man, so they have *some* indie films.

I belong to them too...aren't they fab?! I wish I had stock in that company. It's probably two high school kids running it out of their parents' garage...

It's so rare to see something work exactly as advertised. I just don't think some of the movies come out on DVD.
