Where does it raise its ugly head? ON this thread? or elsewhere?

I've seen it on some SoccerAge web site who are always about a day and a half late with the news. I suspect they are merely dragging the story up due to the abuse he got from the Chelsea fans on Sunday.

It could be our lot putting the pressure on Goma and Hughes to get back to clean sheet mode! Who pressed reset to default anyway. It must have taken ages for Bobby to click all the right buttons to configure the Clean Sheet Mode!

From Soccernet this morning:-

"I'll take Leboeuf off your hands", says Robson

Frank Leboeuf has been offered an escape from his ordeal at Chelsea after emerging as Bobby Robson's prime target to bolster an injury-hit Newcastle defence.
Soccernet can reveal that Newcastle have established contact with Stamford Bridge in an attempt to strike a deal for the #4million-rated centre back, valued as much for his attacking instincts as his defensive qualities.
The Newcastle manager is currently weighing up the financial implications of matching Leboeuf's #25,000-a-week wages, as well as Chelsea's asking price, but has made it clear that the 32-year-old is his top choice.
Robson's enquiry could prove very convenient for new Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri, who will doubtless be concerned at the level of animosity shown by the fans towards Leboeuf in the wake of Gianluca Vialli's sacking.
A month ago Leboeuf might have taken some persuading to swap the high life in London for the north-east, but he is taking the rejection by the supporters badly. "I have never been so depressed as I was after the game against St Gallen," he said. "I could not sleep on Thursday night, and that is no way to live your life. I wondered how I could carry on here."

So, there could be something in it gang.

Well, after everything he's said about the Toon and Alan Shearer, I can't see him getting the warmest reception at SJP..

Its all sounding rather ominous now. I'd far rather see one of the Caldwell's playing, at least you'd know their heart was in it. As a 32 year old surely this goes against everything Bobby is trying to achieve with the youth set up.

This would hinder Hughes' development if he was the man to be replaced and Goma would move to another club if it was him. This could have bad repercussions for the the club. We'd have two of the most hated players in the English game on the pitch and while I'm happy for Shearer to fill that role I'd rather no have Lepoof here. Besides we should be hated for our success not our players.

Jeez we'll be buying Roy Keane next......mmmmm.

It's the lead footy piece in the Metro freebee morning rag, if that's anything to go by.

Does it really matter the guy's a plize plick if he delivers ? And where does it leave Dabs and Marcellino etc ?

Could be really interesting when Beefy comes and Lua Lua doesn't. It'll put my long suffering to the test.

Is Bobby losing it ? :-)

What has happened to Olivier Bernard? Has anyone seen him train? Has he actually signed? Is he considered good enough for first team duties? Questions Questions Questions? ;0)

As I said before, Merde. However, looking on the positive side (if that's possible), then he might bring some long-needed control and authority to the defence. Plus the fact that he's a Frog may indeed form a good understanding with Goma.

I have to say, if (and it's a big if) he were to deliver on the pitch, I could (almost) forgive the fact he's a prize tosser. Mind you - it would be an intersting time on the training pitch if he was on the other side to Shearer!

This is a man who said that it was impossible to live a full life in Newcastle. Also, remember how Big Al made a fool of him at Wembley?

He was quoted in the papers the other day saying the fans in Newcastle were amazing after the 0-0 draw.

"He was quoted in the papers the other day saying the fans in Newcastle were amazing after the 0-0 draw."

So he knew then, he was coming here ? :-)

It did seem a suprising quote after his comments re visiting Ginola here and freezing his nuts off etc etc

-- Anonymous, September 19, 2000

I was thinking the other day that now would be a good time to put in a bid for Gudjonnson as he has hardly had a game, the new manager will want his own players and he could be a lot cheaper if we move fast and secure the deal before Rangers or whoever get to know.

As for Leboeuf he is too old too slow and has a bad attitude.
