Nuclear power plant scrams

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Y2K discussion group : One Thread

A lot of the electricity shortage that
we are experiencing is directly related
to the record amount of nuclear power
plant scrams and outages that have occured
this year. There were about a dozen in the
January period, 10 in another month, 7 in
another. Also coal and thermal plants went
down in this period. Bonneville Power usually
sells electricity to CA during the summer.
This year they had to buy it at 50x the
previous market rate. Alcoa Aluminum closed
two plants in WA when their rates went up.

Hmmmmm, having a few capacity problems. Like what's wrong with those embedded controlers that automatically shut down, shift loads, and otherwise make the power gird function at peak performance?

Oh, they're fine, yup, just fine. :)

There were a couple of scrams that I
posted on GICC this morning. One was
while they were trying to shut down
for maintenance.
