Preps in the UK

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Y2K discussion group : One Thread

I hope the preppers in the UK didn't
get rid of their stash before the
stores ran out of food during the
fuel tax protest.

I'm thinking of increasing my stash.
I've used up quite a bit of it already.

Taking a quick straw-poll here in a London office, most people had put off buying gas till supplies were re-established, which was anticipated to be happening starting tomorrow. Now that Tony Blair has antagonised the blockaders and they are resuming their activities I reckon that we will be in deep trouble within 48 hours as the gas in peoples cars (carefully spun-out so far) gives out.

As we now know yesterday's UK panic was started by a "joke" on the radio which almost restarted the fuel crisis. It is indicative of how "jumpy" people are here to the possibilities and took less than 12 hours to restart panic buying. The broader lesson here is for all governments to handle such issues involved sensitively and promptly or pay the price. No Spider, I haven't dug out my bike yet and I'm still hoping I won't have to.
