Did anyone expect to win?

I have to admit I was not surprised at the scoreline on Saturay, we just weren't meant to win. Combine our bad feeling of our record at the Dell and Southampton's feeling that they will always win and we were a goal down before we got onto the pitch.

The Saints hadn't won a game all season and we had a number of players out injured. We will probably never field our strongest team due to injuries.

It is important that we now strengthen the squad with players like Lua-Lua and Acuna and go one from here.

We're sixth with defeats to Manure away and the Saints away and who realistically expected to get anything from those games. It may have been a bad performance on saturday but it often helps in the long run.

Howay the lads.

You'd feel a bit aggrieved as well if youd travelled to watch this shoddy display . I wouldnt have minded if Dyer had challenged back , Nobby could be @rsed and Shearer had jumped , but they didnt . I can agree with the sentiment and we'll all feel different if we tonk Charlton on Saturday , its just that im not as gung ho as i was last Thursday .. still part and parcel of following Newcastle these days : - ((

You wouldn't have it any other way Sting!

These things are going to happen again this season more than once. Lets face it as soon as we get the magical forty odd points to avoid relegation, then we can look at the games left and see what we can do.

It hurts more when you feel that the lads on the pitch didn't give of their best. That's personal.

I predicted a loss, but hoped for better (as ever).

Can we play the remainder of our games at SJP?

The general feeling seems to suggest that we can't afford to have Solano and Dyer in the same midfield when we are away to teams like Southampton.

Dyer should be given the Right wing spot IMHO anyway. Hopefully Bassedas will coma back and be the dead ball specialist, leaving no real need for Nobby. Fill the left wing spot with Glass if he ever gets fit, and have two solid midfielders in the middle.

Surely we could cash in on Nobby seeing as we have Gavilan?

I'm surpised at how little we have seen of Gavilan this season. He didn't even play when Nobby was out.

I'd agree that Nobby/Dyer should be an or rather than an and, espesh away from home, unless you play Solano wide left. Granted, he'd be coming in on his right foot the whole time, but linking up with Domi he could give defences summick to think about. Better than having him or Dyer getting blown over in the centre of midfield.

I'd agree...if I thought that Dyer / Solano were anything like a threatening attacking force outside of Tyneside.

Nobby can't play wide left 'cos his left foot is crap, and his powerful asset (when he can be bothered) is crossing. This would be wasted on the other wing as he'd have to turn his body around to wrap his foot onto it.

There are basically are too many lightweight midfielders in our side, which presumably is what Bassidas (sp?) was brought in for. When the going got tough (Saturday) we were hussled and hassled off the ball. We have the creative players, now we need the scrappers.

Yeah, I thought we'd win. I thought Bobby had finally given the team a spine transplant. I was wrong.

Much as it goes against the grain, I hate to disagree with you Bobby.

I think we lack the creative type. My definition of creative is one who creates things for others, not themselves. Dyer and Solano generally are the latter. Making runs at people or playing a one two.

We do not have the players to carve open a team with a pass. Not regularly anyway.

We will struggle against the teams who defend. Leicester for example. We are heading in the right direction and are low on fuel, but a petrol tanker is on the horizon!

No, I didn't, but I thought we'd get a point, AND I didn't expect a spineless, Gullitesque, capitulation either, or the reappearance of schoolboy defending.
I wasn't there so I can't really comment on the midfield performance which has been roundly criticised; however, we did create a good number of chances for a team that the media is saying should have been blown away. Also, while our lightweight midfield may not have helped the defence out enough, it wasn't them that left Kashloul and Pahars totally unmarked on the goals by ball-watching.
