The smart man learns from his own mistakes; the wise man learns from the mistakes of others

I posted this to another thread of mine, just after another of charlie's cut and pastes-It deserves its own thread:

Charles:

There is no test to take. I was not a doomer; in fact, I did not show up here until post rollover. I have not walked a mile in your shoes so I cannot understand why you feel the need to do what you are doing. I am trying to be nice here-I really do care about the condition of your soul-not to "save it", but to see it healed. You do not see this now, but speak to us in 6 months, if you continue on your current path, and tell us how you feel then.

It is not a happy state of being to remain on a crusade. I know. I have been there. I crusaded for a few years in the fellowship of narcotics anonymous-I was exposing their world service office for the crooks they were-they were stealing money from recovering addicts and traveling the world with it. I had the facts and I debunked them at every corner.

And you know what? I was right. My friends and I were able to effect changes, and we won a copyright case filed against us for printing NA literature and giving it out for free. A federal court ruled the world service office could not stop us from doing this. This is the short version.

All that debunking, however, took a heavy toll on me-I had been channeling all that anger, and that mistrust, and I ended up relapsing and almost dying in the process.

I am not speaking out of the side of my mouth-crusades ARE necessary and good where they effect change. BUT, when one loses balance, where one can only see the crusade and nothing else, that myopic view ultimately leads to disaster-I was not t he only to relapse as a result of my crusade, and those that stayed clean suffered in other ways. Yes, it is important to put up the good fight-but there IS a time to rest, to recharge, and to assess the situation. I will tell you that to continue at the rate at which you are, you run the risk of great injury to yourself. Maybe you will suffer no ill consequences, but the changes are you will.

The smart man learns from his mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.

FutureShock:

Yeah, but ... you ACCOMPLISHED something. You have SOMETHING to show for your efforts. It was hard work, it took it's toll, but you won and you can take PRIDE in the help that you gave to others.

On the other hand ... CPR accomplished NOTHING. Two years of deluded de-bunkery, and NOTHING to show for it. Other than having lost $200,000. He makes the most heavily prepped doomer look like a frigging genius, by comparison.

So, really, you and CPR have NOTHING in common. You are a caring person who came out of your humanitarian efforts as a winner. CPR is a pathetic moron who HAS YET to come out of his idiocy as anything but a loser. Plus, he's nuts.

Thanks for the good work that you did.

thanks for the kind words, KOS. Yes, something good came out of my efforts, but the price I had to pay was WAY high-loss of family, loss of work, DUI arrest, and several over doses. It is a miracle I am alive today. Would I recommend someone do what I did? No. not necessarily. My suggestion was that in any crusade, one must have balance-one must take time to breath. I am not judging what CPR did before now-HE is the only judge of that.

I am bringing to the light my own experience, because I see CPR acting the same way I did-all vim and vigor and no time for relection- no time to recharge-no time to see where the crusade is going-In his own mind he is right at this time-I am just asking him to take some time to see if he is getting enough "bang for his buck". I think if he were honest with himeself he would see he is a little out of balance now. I am sure he has something to offer. I am sure he can converse intelligently on other subjects. This is my challenge to him.

"bang for the buck"?????!!!!!! Dude, what you are witnessing is $200,000 worth of banging.

Yeah, let's hope CPR feels like he got a bargain....

Since Y2K is over and done with, and beating a dead horse is exactly what it is, perhaps it's time to move on. Words are cheap, but experience demands respect.

Right on guys. CPR has proven to me beyond a doubt that his behavior is far more insane than anything done by people in advance of Y2K, even the guy who had a huge hole dug in his backyard for a water or gasoline storage tank. He is far more extreme, irrational, and bizarre than anyone who bought dozens of guns, bought a new house in the country, put all of their savings in gold, bought gas masks or tons of food, or anything I'm aware of. Gary North, Ed Yourdon, and Dennis Olson look like Albert Einstein compared to Creep. I think there might have been one man who committed suicide because he feared Y2K would be the end of the world. What Creep is doing is even worse, he is destroying himself very slowly and painfully.

Future, what are you talking? Your signature has led me many a lamp light on my darkened path. Did you ever know? When I had small hope, your voice and signature, gave me hope. How could you ever know? Angel's flying too close, to the ground. I would rather see you up, then down. Time to PARTY, now!! Going to a water space next weekend, act like a freaking kid, been adult acting too long. Gonna fit my fat backside into a suit, and slide down my most fearful sight, and it won't be pretty. Do I care?, NOT!

Pssst, do not listen to this advice. Keep posting and pasting and posturing and pustulating until you have passed away in pestilence. Sooner the better, you pissed-off pizza-pest.

I am insane, destitute and homeless

"The only thing I gain is the knowledge that I helps [Sic] prevent some people who aimed at tearing at the Fabric of American Society. For that......I was willing to give up a great deal of income lost by spending most of my time DE-BUNKING the MYTHs and the MYTH MAKERS OF Y2k." November, 1999

FS-

Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. It puts my petty problems in perspective today. I do hope others will read, and understand, at least your last two sentences.
