greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

I OWN A VERY, VERY SWEET MAIN COON FEMALE (2 YEARS OLD). THERE IS ONE SINGLE PROBLEM: SHE EATS ONLY DRY FOOD (CHEF BLEND AND FRISKIE)AND NOTHING ELSE. I OFFERED TO HER MEATS, WET FOOD FROM PET STORES...NOTHING. IS THIS AN ANOMALY OR MAYBE THERE IS A SPECIAL FOOD FOR MAIN COONS. THNK YOU IN ANTICIPATION,

MIKE POPE.

Hi Mike, My 3 year old Maine Coon can only eat dry food too. I have tried to feed her canned, wet food and she will eat them, but always throws them up!! So, she eats only dry food now and is ok. I don't know if it is because she gobbles the wet stuff down too fast or what??? She is still happy!!! :)

Well, I would try to get her some higher quality food. One of my MC's never ate wet food, but loved treats. Since you are feeding Chef's blend and Friskies, I would try mixing those two half and half with a new Pet Store / Vet quality food like Hill's Science Diet, Sensible Choice, Iams, etc. Slowly, you can mix more of the new brand than the old brand. Good Luck.

Hi, Was reading your post on what you fed your Maine coon. I would advise, and from experience as well as Breeders suggestions, to change the Chef's Blend. My guys were eating it, I have a Maine Coon and 5 Domestic Short Hairs, My Maine Coon would eat it as well as others but it has Red Dye in it and anything with red dye is not good. Iams, Sencible Choice are good brands, I would try to mix slowly and eventually take away the Chef's Blend altogether. My guys eat Iams and Whiskas Dry, they love it and it is much bettr for them, I am going to start them on Sensible Choice soon to get rid of the Whiskas as well.

Just my .02
