Chinese jet makes two emergency landings

A China Airlines jet with 256 passengers on board made two emergency landings at Nagoya airport in central Japan after warnings of engine trouble.

Flight 151 was 29,500ft above the Pacific ocean en-route to Taiwan when there was a cockpit warning signalled trouble with engine No 2 which was checked and cleared on return.

However, 30 minutes into the second flight another alarm signalled similar engine trouble and the Airbus A300-600R returned to Nagoya for the second time.

Nobody was injured in either incident, China Airlines officials said.

There were no details from the second landing and the causes of the two landings were still under investigation.

An official said inspectors hadn't found evidence of engine fire and added that passengers will be flown to Taipei on another plane scheduled for departure on Saturday morning.
