Bez on the Toon

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I won't do NUFC.com of the cut'n'paste but you should really go to read their preview of the Saints match. Excellent comments from John Beresford on a range of topics, a real must!

I play football on Sundays with a few mates of bezzers. They went to school and stillkeep in touchwith him. I have met him a few times when HE came to watch US play!! He is a decent bloke (with a gorgeous sister). He took my Newcastle shirt and got it signed for me by the squad of oct'97 which I framed and hung on the wall. He Loves Newcastle.

Niall and Biffa should get together with Bez and write a book on his days at NUFC. Excellent stuff, Cole in a huff, Venison on the hoy,the Keegan tantrums, Dalglish versus Ginola, he's got all the anecdotes. Like DB says, "a real must!".

He's got a lousy memory though. He had the 'bucket' incident down as being in Jan94 when it was actually in Oct93, and mentioned that Ruel Fox made his debut in the League Cup game against Wimbledon a few days later. Foxy did make his debut at Wimbledon but it was later in the season, it was probably the incident with Howey, Venners and Mathie that made Keegan offer Fox the chance to go back to Norwich. The way its written it looks like everything happened in a single week when they were actually a few months apart.

Quibble over.

Excellent read. Incidentally, I just saw a short interview with Sir Les and he said that when we were 12 points clear and we lost a game, the feeling in the dressing room was oh well, we're still 9 points clear. Instead of saying sh!t, better not do that again.

Hindsight is everything.
