UK: Oxo shutdowns leave Europe slightly tight

London (Platt's)--14Sep2000
Operational difficulties in Europe
have left the markets for butanols
and 2-ethylhexanol slightly tight
over the last two weeks, according
to market sources. The continuing
outage of Borealis' Stenungsund,
Sweden cracker has left oxo
producer Neste critically short of
propylene feedstock, and operating
rates have been sharply cut.
Additionally, German oxo maker
Oxeno suffered an unscheduled
outage at its Marl plant which
lasted for about seven days last week.
