Heed these words

Article by Matt Dickinson (I think, can't be bothered to check) about Vialli asking what the club expected from a manager with no experience. Goes on to mention AS succeeding YBR as a prime example of further idiocy of this type. Points out how crap Dalglish has been too.

This is will be an issue for us in a few years after Bobby (best in the league) has won us the title. I don't want Shearer as the next manager: let him learn the trade. Barton is also sure to move into coaching. If they remain at the club to gain experience, all well and good. But to hand over control to someone with no experience is courting disaster of KD or RG proportions. Don't undo Bobby's good work.

Exactly! I totally agree. We need an experienced manager to take over in 2007 when YBR retires :-))

Here is my list of current managers that I'd be happy to take charge after Bobby: 1) ...errr..

I completely agree Dan2.

Depending on how well he does at Leicester I would go for Peter Taylor, who has worked with Cort, Dyer and Griffin already. He's have some idea about the task ahead. Other than that, what about Steve Bruce, geordie bloke albeit a red one!

De B, I really hope that the Bruce remark was a joke!

Totally agree Dan, you don't have to look too far from Newcastle for two further examples.

Mmmm, not too sure how Dogleish fits into this. He had experience of managment before coming to NUFC.

And he won the league with two clubs.

Manager with no experience = crap?

Kevin Keegan anyone?

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2000

I would like to add that Dalgleish inherited one side and bought another. His management skills were exposed as being crap.

Well all managers have to start somewhere don't they? Keegan started with a bottom of the first division outfit. But those clubs who aspire to be B.I.G. need managers with the experience to handle the pressures at the top.

Agreed. I see no logic in appointing someone er, cos they're a Geordie and, er, cos they've played for the club. Bollocks. Shearer's random enough, but when people suggest Beardo... Some of these players will make it in management, but most won't, the only way I'd be comfortable with AS taking over is if he had at least two years under BR as (player-)coach first. Even then it's ropey.

As for KK, well, there is an argument that he's *whisper* actually not that good a manager...

No doubt BR will have a say in the matter. Lets wait and see.

Who said steve Bruce

Yes Ginge, let's hope YBR does have a hand in it. Trouble is, at his age, can we be guaranteed he'll be around long enough? Ideally, I'd like to see Shearer or Barton (or even Pedro) groomed thru the club, but not likely as YBR's immediate successor. Or perhaps earn their spurs elsewhere.

I wonder about Wadsworth - does he have what it takes to become YBR's successor while the next one is being groomed?

Ahh! We've seen all that before. Anyone remember Dennis?

I would happily accept the silverware delivered by a 'crap' manager like Vialli

-- Anonymous, September 15, 2000

Me too Beardo.

I heard Vialli is being offered a position at Juve.

By the time YBR retries.....KK will be available again.

I think a Shearer and/or Barton/Lee double/triple act would be a good idea.

I might be wrong, but I think time is moving against Pedro and the Toon.....has he been 'away' too long?

-- Anonymous, September 15, 2000

I will argue this until the rhinos stop pissing in my well...

KK gave us the nearest thing we have ever had to success AND the type of footy WE love......if I had died after the manure 5-0 I would not have given a toss and went on to wherever one HAPPY Geordie bastard !

very eloquently put Harold .

I'm expecting Steve Bruce to take over from Robson - at the Riverside. And I'm not talking about training grounds.

-- Anonymous, October 17, 2000

... and Alan Shearer will take over from Bobby Robson, so better get used to the idea gang - unless, of course, England snag him first!
If BR left within the next two years then I think Gordon Milne/Mick Wadsworth would fill in for a period. However, unless something significant happens the plan is for AS to work alongside BR and then take control.
