1973 or '78?

I would just like to say thanks to all of you who made me feel welcome in the Strawb on saturday before the match. It was nice to meet you all. In the G&D after the match we were talking about the Southampton game. Now I am no "Statto" or anything, infact I couldn't tell you the scores from any previous Southampton match, but is it true we haven't won at the Dell since the 70's? and was anybody there to witness it?

Last time we won was 26 February 1972 - score was 2-1 and our goals were scored by Macdonald (pen) and Stuart Barraclough. Crowd was 18884. This was exactly three weeks after the Hereford disaster!

I wasn't there - I was living in Leicester at the time and just starting to plan for me approaching finals sad git that I was in those days (still am!).

I had met Mr Jacko at that point but hadn't yet become an item - that didn't happen until he discovered I had a car and persuaded me to take him to Notts County v Port Vale! The rest, as they say, is history!

Yes you're right I think it was Mike Channon (spellig) that got the southampton goal jacko, but I think there were 18,964 spectators there on that day.
