Price of a pint?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This was mentioned on another thread somewhere and is something close to my heart at the minute.

In my local, decent place as it is, the price of a pint of Stella has now rocketed to #2.45. Fair enough if the product was that much better but it isn't any different from the pint I bought six years ago!

What is the price of a pint of Premium Lager in your local?

And before the warm beer brigade jump on me I am not adverse to a pint of Bitter, only there isn't a decent pint of it in my local. I have to drive out of town for that! ;0)

A pint of stella here costs #2.39 before 11 and rockets to #2.47 after 11 in the pubs that have a 1am licence. This is in a town that relies on the generosity of students.

Whereabouts are you Mick G?

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

#2.45
Gales HSB at #2.10 is the best value.

I currently in a town called Loughborough. It's economy relies on the Sports University's students and the company I currently work for. If it wasn't for these two things the whole town would be dead.

When I buy pints is usually part of a round, so don't really notice the unit price. But regularly I find 2 pints of pretty much anything will present little change from a fiver. Under #2.00 is the province of Weatherspoons pubs in this end of town, which is ok for a pint of Theako Best.

Worst thing I find is paying over #2.00 for a bottle of lager (Stella etc, 'cos Dog is more like #2.60!) as you're getting only just over a 1/2 pint! Been charged #3.50 for bottle of Stella.

How does #4.00+ (and that's in Happy Hour!) sound for a pint here in Hong Kong, even worse in (my 'native') Singapore :-(

Kegsy (v. quiet these days?) will no doubt inform us that Tokyo is much more expensive!

Oh for sunny South Africa, still way less than 50p. a pint.

Obviously comparison of salaries / exchange rates need to be considered.

Goin slightly off topic here, and following on from Bud's reference, but Kegsy has been very quiet since the earthquake(?) and flooding in his area.

Do we know if he is definitely OK?

Kegsy will just be getting stuck into his new job ;))

Going back to the original topic.....I've only just realised that I've got absolutely NO IDEA what price I pay for alcohol....NONE at all....I always just hand the nice man whatever he asks for....I wonder if I've been getting ripped off?

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Kegsy posted a team pick for the Cov game yesterday so I gues he's OK!

I'm pretty much the same as Gav here.....I have little or no idea how much beer costs.

I met Scratchy and Bobby in the pub on Sunday and got them in when I arrived. The bloke serving me pulled the three pints and said it was #7.40.....I gave him a tenner and waited for the change.....when he came back he said he had miscounted and it was #6.20 (an possible over charge of #1.20) but as I didn't know the price in the first place, I didn't actually know to query it.

Lets be honest here......who knows exactly how much a pint costs in the pub they drink in and who in this thread are just 'suggesting' that it is 'about' the price they have said.

Alive and extremely tired. It's nice to feel wanted!

I've now been working for the past three weeks, 12 hours a day and basically, I go home, fall asleep and waking up and going to work, so I've not had the energy to contribute, I've been lurking before and after work, and of course I'll be logging on at the week end for the match day thread.

Going back to the topic in hand it's about 6 quid 20 for a pint in Tokyo given the current exchange rate, so De Builder, you should consider yourself very lucky!

Bloody 'ell 12 hour days - I know what that's like. When I worked at Swan Hunters I was doing 7am to 7pm.

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

I'm actually enjoying it, but it's the first time in my life that I've had to work like this. I've had physically demanding jobs when I was younger, and worked night shifts etc, but this is the first time I've woerked 60/70 hour weeks. And the worst part about it is...I only get commission (sp). SO it could be worth nothing!

just paid 4.75 for 4 cans of stella for th train journey to Cov $-))

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

ITK, I know exactly.... I'm a tight northern bastid you see!

Stella #2.45
Heinecken #2.10
HSB #2.10 Wadworths 6X #2.05 Ringwood Best #1.95 etc.....

I know the %ABV as well so I can calculate the mg alcohol/# value ;-))

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Sting...less than 4 hours to go....I'll be checking that you still have 4 cans when you get to the station later ;))

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Should of let us know mate, 'cos the offie opposite my house does 8 cans Stella for #6.00, or 8 Carling for a fiver. And he's open until 11.00pm

Can any of your readers beat that!?

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

A pint of broon dog (they come in pints in the US) costs me five dollars, guinness is five. Although you can get a bottle of MGD for a dollar and a half in some places, although these places are usually not occupied by humans.

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Hey Bobby.....there's a coincidence, my local offie also does 8 cans Stella for #6.00, or 8 Carling for a fiver X-Files stuff or what!

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Ken,

Now wouldn't it be really freaky if Scratchy also had an offie nearby that sold this stuff at the same price ;))

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

I never know exactly - as Bobby says when buying a round, especially of mixed drinks, it's not easy. I'd sometimes work it out retrospectively if the round was on the pricey side.

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Gav.....it would be even more weird if True also knew an offie doing the same deal.

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Pint of Stella will cost around $6-80 or 2 pound 20. Guinness the same but I did get a six pack of Becks at the Offie for $10/3 pound 80p and was wondering if I was getiing a UK bargain.

Looks like I'll be back for more.

6 pack of Broon ale small bottles = $15 or about 6 squid

Damn..........thirsty now!!

Whats the price of a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon worth then?

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Gus, Stop trying to pretend your posh man....we all know your not!! ;)

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

Pint of Tennants - #1.75, Best Bellhaven Bitter #1, 75. Nips #1 to #1 -20

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

>>Pint of Stella will cost around $6-80 or 2 pound 20

hiro - what exchange rate are you working off over there in Western Australia ?! Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if they've introduced a special rate here in Sydney so they can cash in even more on the Olympics ....

-- Anonymous, September 06, 2000

strangely, I broke myown record yesterday for prices.

Sherlock Holmes pub behind Trafalgar Square - #2.73 for a pint of London Pride. Fucking outragreous.
