In your Chelsea slums

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I hear with some satisfaction this morning on the radio that the standard of living in London for most people is lower than most other areas of the country, due, it would seem to higher prices. It has always been said that the QUALITY of life has been higher elsewhere (measured in intangibles such as congestion etc) but now it seems that the STANDARD mesasured in hard cash is also better away from London, despite the millions poured into the region on things like the millenium dome and bridge, national stadium, British Library etc etc ad infinitum.

So assuming the high rollers of Chelsea can afford to travel the length of the country this weekend, we should wave wads of tenners at them and sing "In your Chelsea slums" (or "In your Knightsbridge slums" sounds even better. Not that I'm into winding up opposition fans at all, but there are one or two clubs who deserve it IMHO. (-;

Jonno, I fully expect you to join me in some round abuse of Leboeuf on Saturday. He said that a foreign player couldn't possibly live comfortably in places such as Newcastle or Blackburn. Regarding wealth, I was on the Chelsea site the other day and laughed to see a lass saying that she didn't know whether she could afford the Toon game as the flight was so expensive... Chants - the old Monaco chant would do: "You find a dead lobster and think it's a treat".

London is one of my least favourite cities in the world (given my wide bredth of experience in these matters). It stinks of pollution, you can't drive anywhere without taking hours, public transport is slow, smelly and expensive (tube lines, especially), taxis are a total rip-off with rude drivers, pints are overpriced and rarely served in a civil manner, and the people are dreadfull...especially those with a bit of wedge who fancy themselves.

I need out.

I second that emotion Bobby...having just come back from a REAL city where things run nice and smoothly I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of how SHIT London is.....I want to burn it to the ground....

Welcome to Fight Club....

Aaaaaaa, don't get me started on London. Everytime I'm down there something happens to really piss me off.

I now find myself thinking of various ways to de-rail the tube.

Commence Project Mayhem.

The good thing about living in London is that when you do want to move out your money buys so much more .. thats abt it i suppose . My pet hate is the tube , all thos epeople ( me included ) being quiet staring into space pretending to think about nowt .. when really theyre thinking about either ripping your head off , getting into be with you or checking out your clothes and hiar ... or is that just me : - )) I cant stand the tube and avoid it all costs , much to the detriment of my wallet : - (( Can you imagine having been on that tube on Monday that stopped in the tunnel for 4 hours at rush hour , it was packed and the lights were turned off .. i wouldve freaked out .

I actually miss London, and even the tube, if I've been away for a while. But I've always liked big cities - the dirtier and grimier the better. Makes you appreciate the countryside more. And as for tubes (as long as you get a seat) you'll never find a better concentration of different types of humanity. I think everyone should be forced to travel on the tube for educational purposes. ;-)
