BBS Six months old tomorrow!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Always assuming that I have my glasses on the right way up, I reckon the BBs is six months old tomorrow. I`ve just spent a very entertaining half hour trawling through some of the older threads - do you know, they are priceless! Funny enough to make you laugh out lound second time around! I can thoroughly recommend it for anyone who is feeling a bit jaded.

There doesn`t seem to be so much humour on here these days, is it just me, or is it all getting very serious. Apart from the obvious delights of Softie`s exciting week, there aren`t so many non-footie chats. Why is that do you think? And is that what the majority of people prefer? I love going `off subject` for a while, and I love the little insights that it gives into the lives of other BBsers.

Am I the only one who feels like this? (:o)

No, I believe most of us agree with you Galaxy - and that's what actually attracts the regulars to this thing. However, I just think it's difficult to force any aspect, be it humour, nostaglia oe whatever - it kind of has to come naturally.

It is the beginning of a new season, and most people's focus is on how we are doing, what are the emerging problems and strengths, the 'new' stadium, season tickets etc, etc.
Having said that it has been rather sterile and 'bare' on here at times recently, especially during the weekends - but I guess people are still on holiday, family weekends etc.
There is still a goodly amount of humour to be found - have you read Jonno's posts on baby Softies arrival? As ever, they were priceless.
There's also a modicum of good debate - viz, the England match and 'Pires hates the PL' threads. These have all been a welcome improvement over the appallingly turgid 'I love/hate manure' threads that were in abundance a couple of weeks ago.
This place is still far and away the best cyber-place for Toon lovers, for information, debate, friendship, compassion, nostaglia and humour. Perhaps we all need to work just a little bit harder to ensure we keep it lively and current.
Happy half birthday Greenspun bbs - long may it survive.

Thanks again Dunx

Clarky - I didn`t miss the Jonno postings - they were so funny!(:o)

I think you are probably right about holidays, etc., and the fact that it is the beginning of a new season. Maybe I was just feeling a bit flat myself tonight - dark and pouring with rain by seven thirty. Thought maybe I was sounding like a bit of a moanin` minnie when I thought about my posting - but as usual, that was after I pressed the send button! (:o)

And, of course, many many thanks to Duncan. (:o)

Add my thanks etc to Dunx.....where would I be if it were'nt for the board.........

Reckon I'd be in the nut house if I had to rely on The Strawberry and RTG all of the time.

I like going there for a bit of a wind up....like tonight, but coming back to the normality, reality and sanity that is Greenspun is like a breath of fresh air.

Cheers Dunx.

Did you know.......

with 27,455 postings in six months(182 days), that's an average of 150 postings PER DAY......

.....not a lot of people know that!

Wow...6mos and going strong. Thanks, Dunx! This place has kept me sane on many occasions...while encouraging me to go insane on others(planes, trains and automobilies for Blackburn last season!). Not that I need much encouragement when it comes to the Toon. ;-)

I may not be around quite as much in the near future cause I've been thrown into a bit of crisis mode(gotta love greedy barsteward landlords. not). So until that's sorted...

btw....anyone happen to know any good companies in the Baltimore-DC corridor that want to hire a web type? :-)

I agree Galaxy - I get the feeling sometimes when it's really quiet that everyone is waiting to see what will happen. It's a critical mass of ideas and postings that starts things off, although it's bliddy disruptive to work when there are some great threads going on. That's one thing I have noticed though - work hours postings (GMT) have dropped, whereas evening stuff has increased. I rarely log on from home.

Of course there are no jokes, its football season, this is serious stuff. Lives depend upon it.

Why right now Softie is probably showing YBW how to log on.

BTW Mrs gus thinks it is time to close down the bbs every night so she has someone to talk to/ Strange men these women!
