THY plane makes forced landing An Airbus 310 belonging to THY has to make a forced landing at Istanbul after one engine fails

Ankara - Turkish Daily News

An Airbus A-310 belonging to Turkish Airlines (THY) carrying 260 passengers to the German city of Dusseldorf had to make a forced landing at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport yesterday when the plane's starboard engine failed. The plane, named Dicle (Tigris), departed from Ankara's Esenboga Airport and was over Izmir when the pilot, Yavuz Baranoglu, noticed a problem with the starboard engine. After shutting the troubled engine down, he turned the plane around and made a forced landing at Istanbul. Officials said that had the pilot not noticed the problem and reacted so promptly, the engine could have caught on fire. Upon landing, the plane was immediately looked at by flight technicians, who fixed the problem, allowing the plane to resume its journey to Dusseldorf at 1:50 p.m.
