Why are people so bitchy sometimes?

Sometimes I like to think of good excuses for the bitchiness of others. It helps me deal with surprising rudeness from strangers. Why do people get rude? Why do you, if you ever do?

Possible reasons for bitchiness:

Definitely hormones in my case. My monthly bill (tm Sixteen Candles) is sometimes past due and will reek havoc on my moods.

That, and the fact that some people just plain annoy me.

I try, GOD KNOWS I TRY not to be bitchy...but sometimes I just can't help it. I am always grumpy on Monday...or in cases like this week, Tuesday (i.e. first day back to work after long weekend). I do not transition well from time off to back-to-work. I really really hate Mondays and everyone I see on Mondays and everything anyone says. Truly. Other things that piss me off and make me bitchy: the phone ringing, people who just won't get to the damn point, money problems, sales calls, stupid school forms, tailgaters, exhaustion and physical ailments. I can normally hold it all in and put on a smiley face, though. I guess the ones that get hit hardest are my hubby & son, whom I love the most...ain't THAT a bitch?

I like people who are bitchy and downrite rude to me. It gives me a great excuse to practice my language skills. One day I was driving through a supermarket parking lot and being the nice gentleman that I am, stopped for a guy to back out. He backs out and I pull in. The lines for parking were slanted my way. Anyway all of a sudden this guy coming from the "other" direction honks and gives me his age and IQ with sign language and makes signs like he was waiting for that parking spot. I looked around and there were 5 or 6 parking spots on the other side of the aisle slanted in his direction. I thought this guy's a freakin moron. So I got out of my van and pointed behind me to the other parking spaces and he got worse. So I proceeded to practice my sign language and vocabulary at the same time and asked him to the dance. "What a moron". I don't think he could dance. God I love bitchy people. James

When I am cranky or bitchy it is usually because I haven't had enough sleep or because somebody else has infected me with their bitchiness. I work really hard to stay sweet, though, especially at work. I do a lot of customer service so I am used to strangers being snotty at me for no good reason and have gotten pretty good at not taking it personally. Of course it still gets to me sometimes, but it helps to think about how miserable they must be if they have to take it out on a stranger.

Perhaps they, like me, hate everyone. ;-)

i get crnaky when poeple think im a fake. it makes me soooo mad. just cuz i dont have a degree doesnt mean im dumb

-- Anonymous, September 08, 2000

Okay, it's me, I'm back. It's Monday today and I HATE EVERYONE! I hate my bosses and my insincere coworkers and the sound of my phone. I have no motivation to work. I am not sounding cheerful when I answer the phone. One of my bosses asked me if I was okay and didn't seem convinced by the answer. Someone from one of our out of state offices asked "how are you today" and when I said "fine" in a dead voice he burst out laughing -- I was that unconvincing. All I want is to get the hell our of here and go home, make dinner and stare at the TV. I am a bitch today, and it ain't hormonal. I feel snide and mean and you can see it in my face.

Laura, I hope you feel better!

Something that has always helped me when I was feeling bad is ice cream. Have it for lunch or dinner. I promise you it will make you feel better, at least while you are eating the ice cream.

Thanks, Nicole! (smiling sweetly, halo shining peacefully over head) It's Tuesday and I am much better today. It's just a Monday thing, I swear to it...but I have to agree with you on your ice cream idea! I will keep that in mind for next Monday! Starbucks Frappicinno's help me out, too. I should just plan on ice cream for dinner on Mondays...my 10-year-old would be thrilled! :-)

Tonight is take out Chinese night, I'm kinda looking forward to it. And my other two bosses leave in 1/2 hour for a couple of days...boss #1 in Europe...so I should be positively ecstatic tomorrow. Your care & concern really felt good though, Nicole! Thanks again!

I was talking to my friend last night about how much she hates going to do work in the law library, because every time she asks anyone who works there for help, they act all snotty and make her feel dumb for asking.

I pointed out that if she had to spend all day working for minimum wage in the law library, she'd probably act the same way to anyone who bothered her, whether their question was actually stupid or not. God knows when I worked in a library I was ready to kill after five minutes of it most days.

Hey Laura, no problem! I know how annoying it is when you are having a bad day and people just keep bugging you even when they know you aren't in the mood to talk.

Posting to you also gave me a reason to preach the word that ice cream saves.

Word, Nicole!

Om mane padmi dulce de leche yuuummmmmm.

Ahhhh yeah.

Well, here it is Wednesday and I have a song in my heart! La la la!

More on the wonders of ice cream (and frozen dairy treats in general): the other day I felt a migraine coming on, and one of my coworkers was kind enough to fetch me some chocolate frozen yogurt with Butterfinger topping...and lo and behold, the headache vanished! I have used the ice cream cure before for migraines...I think it has something to do with the cold + the sugar. It's a true miracle. I have another coworker based in Texas (I'm in Calif.) who found my favorite Blue Bell brand ice cream flavor (banana pudding) and is shipping it to me in dry ice! I'm so excited I could pee myself!

They. Make. BANANA PUDDING. Ice Cream?!?!? *shriek!* I bet I'd love it!! I need to sleuth around and see if I can find some. Yum!!

Milla! Most people retch when I talk about this pudding, but it is so fantastic. This banana pudding ice cream has real Nilla wafers in it, big huge mushy pieces...and ribbons of whipped cream topping run throughout. It's so good that there's no way you can have only one bowl at a sitting. I found their website and they FedEx their stuff anywhere! Sure, it's $85 for four half-gallons, but I'm thinkin' this stuff is worth it. check out their site at http://www.bluebell.com/rest/order.html.

We may have BlueBell here, in which case I'm in trouble. I know we have Edy's Thin Mint ice cream and Blueberry Pie icecream, and those are both evil. I mean, good. Yes.

I just discovered the previously propped-to Dulce de Leche (word to its mother) and it is soft French vanilla with nearly liquid caramel ribbons. Sort of creme brulee or flan-flavored. And a good flan (or c.b.) rocks my world.

I think that the sugar and fat do help you self-medicate when stressed-- especially if ice cream is a "comfort food" for you! So you're on to something that's far cheaper than SRI medication, girlfriend. And you KNOW that's all right.

BlueBell ice cream rules. If you're ever in Brenham, you should take the tour. They have one of only 8 Drumstick making machines in the world. And you get free ice cream.

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2000

"Bluebell, the best ice cream in the country!"

I've always thought it was better than Ben & Jerry's or Hagen Daz. They must put crack in it. Or sweetened lard.

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2000

Is BlueBell only in Texas?

I love there Light Vanilla. I'm so generic.

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2000

I think it is. This friend of mine has lived all over the country and she keeps telling me she can't find it anywhere else. But I've been wrong before. (Hugh Downs, etc., etc.)

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2000

Oh, and I meant to say that I can't wait til Nicole comes to visit us so we can get her to taste-test it. I want a professional opinion.

-- Anonymous, September 13, 2000

I can't wait to come down to Texas to visit and taste test the ice cream!

My sister says that when people make me nuts at work and I want to kill them (I work in PC Support) that I should picture them as little kids, in front of the Christmas tree, with no presents under it. (I realize that was a poorly structured sentence, sorry). Anyway, I think that's the kindest way to think about it - that people have problems that you don't know anything about and *that's* why they're behaving badly. Then again, I still want to kill them a large part of the time.

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2000

Just in Texas and Louisiana and some other bordering states (Oklahoma, maybe?) Because they only have the one creamery, and a) they can't make enough for the whole country and b)they can't get it to, say, Massachusetts in large enough quantities to sell there. It's too expensive.

Seriously, take the tour, y'all. I've been 4 times.

I am delighted to report that, after a few calls, I have determined that Bluebell is sold in my hometown & that their banana pudding flavor is "in season, if ya hurry". Kroger, here I come. I have to try it, now!

When PMS strikes this month, I'll be prepared. ;)

Just wanted to let you know that two half-gallons of Blue Bell Banana Pudding ice cream arrived at my door at 11:30 am this Saturday...frozen rock solid packed in soft-sided coolers with dry ice. I have had three bowls so far. And guess what? It's Monday and I'm not being a total bitch! Amazing!! God Bless Blue Bell ice cream.

Amen, sister!
