It was a canny game, with the Magpies streaking to an early lead, only to see both them and the oposition have players suspended. However, close to the end, it all started to go a bit pear-shaped when the other lot scored a few and strted to close the gap. Thoughts of Deja Vu came to mind, but I soon put an old Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (perm any 3 or 4 from 4) and my attention returned to the game. Boardroom intervention saw the Magpies sell a number of star players for a quick buck, but the tactic proved worthwhile in the end and they finished worth winners. Only one thing concerned me - why the **** was the skipper allowed to play in a red shirt? Huh!

Very strange to do such a thing, but it will be a superstition now, so he will have to keep it for the semi-final.

I thought it was hilarious as I used to knock about with one of them (Keith Marshall) when I lived in Heaton. He must have spent all those long night shifts in the fire brigade swatting up on the books.
