I just caught up with the Sunday papers last night and the Mail on Sunday suggests that Keegan sent the team back to applaud the fans. Press huh, can't rely on them to give Becks any credit.

Not wishing to take sides in the who went where to wave at who, however, at the end of the match the pictures I saw was of Keegan telling and pointing the players back on the pitch towards the England fans.
