Father moved to research Nuclear weapons, then from Uni couldn't get a job which paid in Newcastle. 4) How often do you manage games? 10 aways, 3 home (last year) used to be 8 hames pre-Keegan when there was no problem getting in. 5) What do like best about going home? The match, pubs, clubs 6) What do you like least about going home? Depressingly still no jobs, Continual problem of getting broken into when I lived in Heaton & continualy being stopped by the Pollis who have time to stop me for speeding, tyre inspections etc yet are unable to catch the filthy charvers who break into my house - who are they trying to protect?

OK - just to skew your stats ;-)

1) No. Second generation I'm afraid. 2) Off and on all my 35 years. 3) I'll interpret that as why I 'stayed' in the SE. PArents when I was younger. Jobs subsequently. 4) These days, only about 3-4 games a year. 5) I think I still pick up on the family excitement when we used to go up each year. It's not 'going home' as such for me, but what I like best is the actual journey, the landmarks on the way marking the distance, Scotch Corner, the factories at Consett etc. and the ever increasing expectation 6)the feeling that I'm an outsider.

1. Yes, Windy Neuk
2. 18 years London area plus 10 years near Winchester
3. Job
4. Last year 7 away, 3 home. This year 20 plus games
5. The lads, away from work, old friends, Northumberland, the sea
6. The increasing (or so it seems) relative economic depression. The increase in crime. Some aspects of Geordie insularity.

1) Yes, Whitley Bay 2) 15 Years 3) Work 4) Most away games, six or seven @ St.James' 5) Mates, family, cheap beer, total strangers smiling and saying hello as you pass them in the street (not a common occurance in N16), fresh air, Greggs Veggie pasties for 50p as opposed to #1.20 or something daft from the Greggs in Highbury. 6) The whole Geordie nation thing can get a tad tiresome

1) Yes, born a monkey-hanger but me ma's a Geordie. (Hartlepool for any aliens). 2) Lived in London for 9 years now. 3) Came down to go to Uni. 4) 8-12 times a season, probably more now as several friends have spare seats at SJP. 5) Love the atmosphere, feeling of going home, old friends, scenery. 6) Feeling as if I've not got a proper home, cold, not as much variety in nightlife or jobs.

Hey ITK, not sure about your answer to number 6....what's the Bay ever done to upset you?

Dave......stayed at the caravan site at WB in April for 'the family visit' at Easter and among many other things we sank in a sea of mud and had to endure 5 power cuts in 7 nights.

When we got back I wrote to their parent company and listed 19 complaints that arose in one single week.

On top of that, the sea front area there is now a desolate hovel compared to what it was in the 60's and 70's

Possibly a tainted view.....but as far as I'm concerned, the north east coast would be much enhanced if WB was chopped off competely and floated out to sea to be used as a target by the RAF/Royal Navy on nuclear bombing exercises.

I should explain that I'm doing a regular feature called "London Calling". It looks at how Geordies and NUFC are viewed from down here but also looks at Geordies down here and our experiences going home etc. I'm planning various items that I'll be begging London/South East Mag help on (including a curry night out, hopefully) but this one was trying to fiond out how many of us are exiled Geordies, how many of us are Toon supporters with no birth connection to the Toon and how we feel about the whole thing. Thanks for all your help! Does anyone mind being named? It's for True Faith...

1) No born in B/ham moved to Newcastle aged 3. 2) 15 years 3) lack of jobs in Newcastle and mates from college 4) About 7 or 8 away and one or two at SJP 5) beer, seeing my family and memories 6) insularity of some geordies and being made to feel that I have taken the southern money.

BTW people smile and say hello to you in sunny South London

These insights are bloody interesting. Especially the insularity/feeling like an outsider bit - interesting mainly because there is such as strong sense of belonging to the area as well. Is it easier to feel part of the north east when down south, than when back up north? I don't mind being named in any article.
