Specific Answers to Prayer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

There is a thread on prayer here. maybe some peole would like to share some specific answers to prayer.

You know, those great promises about scripture are often overlooked. I know I need to pay more attention to these amazing promises.

My wife and I went to Bali last week. We prayed that the Lord would use to tell help evangelize someone. The island (the next island over, and 24 hours by bus with ferry) is mostly Hindu.

A few months ago, we met a Papuan man from the Indonesian half of Papus (Irian Jaya) who was working with a new church plant in Irian Jaya. He was well-spoken of by the missionary who helped win his peple group to Christ years ago. The Irian man had grown up around this American missionary.

When we went to Bali, we planned to go meet this man, but we found out he was about 2 hours away. Bali is pretty big. So we would have to rent a car to go there.

I prayed that the Lord, if He willed, would give us a driver whose hometown was the place we were going to find this missionary, and if He willed, to give us a driver we could share the gospel with.

So we rented a car one day we were there. We didn't have a phone number for the church planter, just an address. We started talking with the driver, and he was very open about the gospel. We spent the whole day gong around with him, and got to talk to him in the car. My wife shared a lot with him. I shared a little, talking about the history of Israel, and how God didn't want them to worship idols. (Idolatry big problem in Bali.) and how God sent Christ and opened the way for salvation. My wife, who speaks Indonesian a lot better than I do, being from here, shared more about Jesus with him.

It turns out he had seen the Jesus film, and had considered becomong a Christian, but he was afraid of his family. He was already engaged with a girl from a family his family knew in the vilalge. They live together in a rented room, and she is aparently pregnant. She can get kicked out of her collge. They aren't married now because she can't go to that school unless she is single. So he had some problems in his life.

We took him with us to meet the preacher. He had moved but we found his new place. At first he wasn't there, and we went to hot springs and to eat, and came back and found him. Then we satdown in the living room on the mat with him, and talked about different things for just a little while. It was already late. The driver was from this town. The church planter made plans to meet with the driver when he went down to his part of the island to the big city. the driver goes up to the church planter's city, which is his home town, from time to time. The driver was happy to find someone to teach him about Jesus, and to share with about his personal problems, it seemed. he thanked God at the end of the day for having met us.

if anyone wants to pray for the driver, his name is Ketut.
