Mikael and Pia, Neville's Court, 1999

One for Wayne :-)

I've never been terribly interested in taking formal portraits, but in recent years I've started to try and make simple, no-frills pictures of my friends. This one I like.

I'm going away for a week, so responses may be erratic.

thanks for thinking of me, struan; but if the shot had truly been for me, pia wouldn't have on a blouse. :) really, though, it is a nice little shot. good composition. not every photograph has to carry the heavy mantle of "art" as baggage.

Sigh. This is hard.

One of the reasons I have mostly stuck to anonymous figures in my posts here is that those of my photos that might otherwise qualify were mostly taken of family and friends in unguarded moments. They include simple portraits like this one, as well as more psychological images which bring out single aspects of their character, and not always the nice ones.

Showing these people to a worldwide audience for comment involves redifining my relationship with them, and the way I think of myself as a photographer. Those I have asked have had no objection to their pictures appearing here, because I emphasised that the point of our discussions is a mutual bootstrapping to higher quality photos.

"Nice Tits" wasn't what I had in mind.

I'm not a prude, I am not offended, and I saw the smiley; but I'm just not interested in this level of discourse, even if it's supposed to be a joke. Make fun of *me* all you like, I am here to fight back.

Shawn: if you don't want an empty thread cluttering up your forum, I have no objection to deletion.

struan, as you acknowledge in your response to my critique, when you put an image online, you expose that image to comments that will likely range from high praise to total contempt, and everywhere in between. and it doesn't make any difference who the subjects of the photograph might be. i responded in a flippant manner to what i discerned to be your flippant offering. i really don't think you want me to get serious about my assesment of the photograph or your response to my post.

Ya know, I've got to take back my comments in the "Erotic Aftermath" thread regarding judging an image not from an erotic standpoint, but from looking at the actual merits of the photograph as a priority. I mean, this photograph does it for me. I mean, just look at it. Wow. What a babe. Just love her posture, those curves, her fetching expression. Just makes me want to close the door and get really close to the ol 'puter screen. Somebody get me away from this before I simply go crazy. This is one hell of a babe pic. *whew* Playboy eat your heart out. ;-0 :-| :-/ ;->
