Any way to put .Mid file into VCD without realtime record to wav ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello,

I'd like to know if it's possible to put .mid file without recording first into wav to VCD ?

I mean the program can directly re-generate / convert the .mid file become wav without we record it in real time.

Thank you.

Regards, Sunar.

you have to understand something about midi files.... they dont hold physical space like a WAV file, the way a .mid file works is they are merely comprised of instructions that the software or hardware that plays them has the correct tone generator (all the voices, or types of sounds and effects) to play those instructions, therefore they must be played in realtime to convert to WAV (Total Recorder would work best, i dont know where to get that though). That is why .mid files are so small compared to an uncompressed WAV file. Ok a good example is if you created a song on your keyboard, then downloaded that song to your PC with a MIDI cable. Chances are you can only play that song exactly the way it sounds on your keyboard only on your keyboard since your keyboard my have special hardware for playing back that song. Because the keyboard is the one that uses it's hardware to play the song. A .mid file is not like an audio cd that has physical space. That's why (I dont think) there exists a program that will directly convert a mid file to a WAV file.

Err.. NT, in your tutorial page, the link to the Audio tutorial is invalid. It points to a file in D drive.
