I don't know that there is that much we need to worry about regarding "fair use" of other people's images as opposed to ones where we have permission. There are so few places in the book world where our sort of thing appears, I would think that most people like Kelly would be glad of the exposure.

We might attempt to find funding through the National Inst. for Discovery Science or a comparable nonprofit institution. Or we could do this commercially, which would almost certainly mean sacrificing good content--assuming someone took us on! We could self-publish. We could make this an "e-book." There are a ton of options. I personally want to get this into hardcopy.

I would go with the hard copy option if possible. I feel that a good hard book lends more credibility and longevity.

I think hard copy is the only way to go. After all, a lot of us have web pages. I'd still like to see it be noncommercial, if possible, because that might get us past any copyright problems with the Kelly enhancement. If we do get backing, either commercial or not, we'd have to clear the use of that image with whoever published the book. I suspect that the rules for the use of images in noncommercial books would be about as liberal as for their use in noncommercial web pages, which would probably allow us to use Kelly's enhancement without worrying about getting permission from Boris Starosta as well. I think having that image on the cover of a book prominently displayed in book stores around the country could have the most positive impact imaginable on the public's perception of the Mars anomaly investigations.

Non-Commercial!!!

Has anyone looked into forming a non-profit organization?
