saving images to disk with photo express

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am just getting used to my digital camera,a kodak dc280.I am downloading my images using ulead photo express 2.0.I save them as tif images.I am using 300 ppi and 6x4 as the size.the files are about 6.3 megs.I am not sure if these are the proper settings to use.I only plan to print 4x6 when needed, and to run a slide show on the computer, and eventually the television.Should i be saving a larger file? I am writng them to cd's so a little larger file wouldn't matter too much. Also, when sending e-mails, what is the proper way to resize for sending? Reduce, the ppi,or the size. thanks for the help.

Brad, The size that you are saving them now is good for printing. You would not gain anything by saving them at a larger file.

To run as a slide show on the computer or just to e-mail a photo to a friend it is best to reduce the resolution to 72ppi and save as JPEG. The photo size is fine at 4x6.

Note! Any storage or photo editing should be saved in TIF or the native Ulead format. You loose quality if you use JPEG for editing and then resaving.

Good Luck! HF
