SUPERSTITION.....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Yup, I've been keeping my end of the unholy bargain up as evidenced by the two wins we've had while I've been away....I'm hoping that I've done enough to give us a little cushion until I see the missus again at the end of september.....

Praise must also be given to Mephisto the gardener and Baal the bodybuilder ;)

Yellow card could have been awarded for starting this thread again Gav, but seeing as it's one of my favourites, I'll let it go...;-).

I spent all day saturday trimming hedges and lawns, and studiously avoiding wearing anything with black and white stripes. The addition of someone else's superstition to my own is a little worrying. Do I need to be shagging whilst not wearing the stripes, gardening and lifitng weights?

This looks like it boils down to a requirement for me to shag someone extremely fat, in public, every Saturday. Hmmm.

I was brave and wore my new away shirt the Toon hadn't won a game since I bought it. I washed it last Wednesday and didn't have it on for the game and they won!

Come on everyone.....share your twisted Toon superstitions with us all....it's about time this thread was resur-erected ;)

Some things just don't change, do they? Well, for me, they have. I cut the hedge, trimmed the lawn, had a bottle of Broon and wore my B&W boxers for the ManUre match. And to what result. Exactly. So, on Wednesday, none of the above were present (well, apart from the Broon and that was for medicinal purposes only) and we won. Same on Saturday. Bliddy marvelous.

No more hedge cutting in public for me. I'll do it in the dark when everybody else is in bed. And I won't tell anybody. I have hearby passed on this superstition to Dunx - seemingly successful. Now, whose can I take over? Gavin??

I must confess, for I have sinned. I was convinced that if I didn't go and see the Manure game (it was on TV in the US) we would win. So I didn't go, I went to church instead. Bollox to that then, so it looks like it's gonna be dodging work on the weekends, thinking up outrageous excuses why I cant do anything inbetween 9am and noon on saturdays and sundays when the toon are on the tube. I'd go into my more perverse rituals but I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea.

I came up trumps on this one at the weekend , went out shopping which always guarantees a win . Must admit to popping in to Granada mind to check the scores and gave meself heart attack at 1-0 .. still ill keep myy side of the bargain for every match i cant get to : - )

Never been a great one for superstitions, but I have started to notice a correlation between my holidays and our results. Suffice to say that over the last three years holidays have been in very short supply, mostly due to the arrival of two kids. The effects last for some time before and after the holiday, and depend on the quality and length of said holiday. Just having had a weekend in Barcelona has obviously contrbuted to our good start, but because no real two week holiday was had, I fear for how long our form will last.

I therefore urgently need another holiday, and am willing to take contributions towards this end. remember, the longer and more luxurious/interesting, the better the results. Of course, anybody offering to look after the kids for two weeks will also help in this selfless act to improve our results.

Should solid facts be required to corroberate, I can of course provide. ;-)

After 3 years on clinging on to old traditions in the vain hope of recreating the sucsess of the keagan Era, I eventually called it a day. Out goes the old away shirt, the black jeans, the blag undies and black and white teletubby socks. I've even given up going out onto the hills a sacrificing a young lamb the night before a game. In comes a new superstition, Take mi bairn, buy a program and a shite hamburger from the same guy each week, wear whatever i want, as long as it's toon related , have a drink in the stadium before the match and buy a large donna after the game. Celabrate the win by going home early and giving wor las It;s working

Do I really have to believe in and continue these superstition things.....oh dear.

I was at work for the match on Saturday (v Spurs) when we won and I had a shirt and tie on (albeit an NUFC tie) - Now the next game (v Coventry) is also on a work day, but I'm finishing early to go to the game, does this mean I have to go to the match still wearing my shirt and tie, or can I risk getting changed before I arrive and putting on the Toon shirt.....someone help me here

I thought I'd forgotten my shirt last week so I attended both games in the old "shield" shirt, the TSM shirt. Two games, two wins. Do I have to keep wearing the damned thing?

Unfortunately, when I got back to the flat on Saturday I discovered my usual shirt had been there all the time.

No I won't wear the old one again. I hate the thing and anyway, as you know, I think it's unlucky to be superstitious.
