Are there as many bigots as there used to be?

(Will Gwen ever stop spelling it "biggot" in other places?)

I hope that the number has declined, but for sure, people are better about covering it up, when they're not at their "bigot bonanzas" or where ever they go for fun.

I think there are plenty of closeted bigots in the world.

Did y'all see how many people cheered for Rudy on Survivor the other night? Bryant Gumbel even kissed his ass. I think it's because less and less people are saying what they really think and find those who spit the most hate-filled vitrol to be their heros. I don't think they were clapping just because he's a crusty old cuss. That's not exactly adorable.

Maybe slightly off topic, but I have to say: for the longest time, I thought that "bigot" was synonymous with "racist." I know they normally go hand in hand, but bigot means more than that. "Someone obstinately and intolerantly devoted to his own beliefs, creed or policy." --The New Websters Dictionary, encyclopedic edition. hmmm, using that definition, it's hard to say that a majority of people *aren't* bigoted, you know? I'm ducking as I type it.

But do I think there are less numbers of racist buttwipes in the world these days? No.

God, I hope so. Racists blend in today is the problem. I'm not as aware as I used to be now in the big city. But if you look on the internet, that's a different story.

I see my bigots today than in the past (I'm talking the 60s and 70s). They seem to be younger and more vocal than in the past when someone's dad didn't like certain ethnic groups because that was what he was taught. Maybe I'm more aware of it now or it's more open today but it really bothers me.

I don't think the numbers are decreasing but maybe it's just because so damn many of them are on the net now, whereas before, I had little contact with them.

I have no idea why so many people were willing to overlook Rudy's boorishness and ignorance.

Rudy was a boy who wanted to play football and got humiliated a lot. He may have been ignorant but Rudy was a winner!!!
