A question for the Faithful

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

In Ireland,if you come across a road accident where somebody appears to be dying or seriosly injured, you should call out the Guardi, the doctor and the priest ..and not necessarily in that order.

My question is this.If you were the road accident victim, would you be happy to be given the last rites by a Catholic priest ?

Of course, why not? Any sincere minister or priest would be fine with me.

Why would it matter who prayed with you and/or for you? As long as someone was there is all that would matter to me....um, providing that someone didnt have a pitchfork in hand...lol.

If I was seriously hurt, I really don't think I would mind at all. I am not catholic, either. Just a christian.

Only if the Catholic priest brings some B-I-N-G-O cards.

What exactly is it that you would want prayer for? For where your soul is going if you die? I'm afraid that sort of praying you must be doing on your own.

I'd be upset. Although I'm not Catholic, if I saw a priest administering what appeared to be the last rites, I would probably come to believe I was about to die, whether that was the case or not. Also, I would be concerned that I had been "written off" so to speak, and would worry that the EMTs either hadn't been called or, worse, might be waiting to treat me until the priest finished out of respect.

OMG ^^^ tarz: I NEVER thought about that. good point.

Cin: u made a good point also.

I've known people who had been given their last rites and lived to tell about it as well but they were in the hospital.
