Two days ago in the middle of the night,A man armed with a pitch fork broke into a house in the rural area of Merced. Two children were stabbed to death, one older child injured. The injured girl jumped out of a window, ran to a neighbors house three hundred yards away, and called Police who arrived within five minutes.Confronted the man in darkened hallway who still had the pitch fork. And ordered him to drop the weapon. He refused and advanced toward them. Both officers fired and the man went down.Only to rise to his feet in seconds and advance toward them again. Both officers fired and he was killed. It was later determined that he was hit sixteen times. He was a loner who slept during the day and roamed at nght...He was said to hate children...And thats the way it is in my part of the world.(central california)

Here in South Florida we have some rabid raccoons and foxes running about, a few folks were bitten, and are recieving treatment. The Save the Manatee club is suing the state over a big increase in manatee deaths this year, a real bad year so far for the poor sweet creatures. A sea turtle who had lost a flipper was released back into the wild. The Rolex bandit has stuck again, and the police are still clueless about who he is or how to stop him. The kid who shot his teacher in the face is nearing trial. A pilot whale washed up on the beach and was taken to Marine World for rehabilitation. The temp today was about 90 degrees, with a lovely bright red sunrise that I enjoyed whilst taking the cans out to the street for pick-up. The dear old lady who was run off the road and spent three days in the swamp has gone home, and looks much better now that her bruises have healed, and they caught the jerk that ran her off the bridge. It rained softly this afternoon, everything is green and blooming in the garden, and the pool temp is hovering at about 85 degrees.

Let me know if you require more info.

Today Lou's cow finally got to the vet. Had a small case of hoof in mouth disease. I checked over with the Jenkins-they reported that three new blades of grass were growing right behind there barn. The twiddlededum brood has finally bought a horse to replace their old one, Jenny-though many in the neighborhood said Jenny could never really be replaced.

Down at the barbershop, Old Ned just could not stop talking about the velvet elvis painting that, as he put it, fell out of the sky and right into his backyard. He had been a closet atheist, but has been seen praising the lord of late. I also heard a rumor that sally was seen at Ted's house cooking apple pie, if you know what I mean. If Jeb finds out I think there will be enough mash to start a dozen stills of whiskey-yuck yuck yuck.

I looked out my door and there was weather-again-today. Funny how that is-how we get weather every day.

Well-that is all I have for Now.

I sure hope the government imposes a three day waiting period on pitchforks and makes it madatory to have pitchfork locks put on them.

ET might enjoy "The News from Lakewoebegone" (Feed that term into www.northernlight.com), as well as Steve Irwin's adventures("Croc Hunter" on the Animal Planet Cable Channel). For some of the rest of us, avoiding the news is the name of the game.

Well, here in Ohio they are approaching a teachers strike set to happen on 1st day of Sept.

TPTB are beginning to 'finally' question all of these folks opening up NonProfit Orgs. to 'fix up' homes and resale at twice what was paid while inspectors condemn the homes just purchased.

Two shootings on the west side.

A Dr in Huber Ohio (this is said to go national) was caught on video giving a drug to his pregnant girlfriend to induce an abortion, she suspected he was trying to kill her and the police would not investigate until she bought them the video first. Then they set him up and caught him red-handed. She still doesnt know if the baby will be okay. The drug is said to induce an abortion, but also known to cause developemental problems with growth.

The weather is nice, finally a lil bit warmer and rain.

Same time, same thread for tomorrow's updates.

Hey, 'sumer -- isn't Shrubya or the AlGore Unit due in Monday or Tuesday? One of the pair is supposed to fly in and heat up the air around your part of the state, and block traffic in mine.

-- (kb8um8@yahoo.com), August 27, 2000.

Deedah,

Good to see you're still kickin'. Was in your neck of the woods recently down at Singer Island - Sailfish Marina - for a couple days. One of my most favorite places in the world. I noticed you mentioned the sea turtle - wife and I always stop by the Juno Beach Marine Life Center whenever we're down that way. We'll be heading back down there 1st week of October. Couple of cold ones together might be a hoot!

Hi K, I dont know if they are or not, I'm looking for whats behind door #3...LOL but I am serious.

Weather is getting HOT HOT HOT, enjoy K....

BTW, did you wave to me last time you came by? :-)

Deano,

If you ever make it over to the panhandle, be sure to give me a shout. Would enjoy tippin' a few with ya.

Beach news:

"Johnson Beach", an un-touristed favorite of locals here, was nearly permanently closed to the public by "the powers that be" recently. The proposal was made in order to protect the approximately 100 Perdido Key mice which inhabit the miles-long stretch of beach. Because of a measly 100 mice, the best beach in the area was nearly shut down! Hearings were held and a compromise of sorts was reached. (Frankly, if it were up to me I'd have sent in a herd of cats to "resolve" the issue.) The beach will remain open but access to it from the 2.5 mile stretch of paved road has been limited to only 8 entry points which are not fenced. In other words, be prepared for a long hike or say goodbye to your own "private" stretch of sand. (I know this sounds like whining, but hey, that's part of my beach-bum duties.)

Very succesful sea turtle hatchling season here according to the news. Volunteers stake out an area of beach at night and watch for nesting turtles. When the eggs are laid in the sand, the nest is roped-off and protected. Apparently this was a banner year for the little turtlettes. Who knows- maybe some of them will show up at the Juno Beach Marine Life Center someday.

CD

Definitely a possibility! Am currently looking for a small mom'n'pop 10-20 waterfront hotel/motel to buy and operate (can you say TIRED OF CORPORATE AMERICA??) Would prefer the East coast of FL but I know it's also beautiful country on the Gulf Coast as well.

Perdido Key??? My ex is from Foley, AL (Kenny Stabler's home town and their only claim to fame!!). Her folks live in Perdido Beach. Very pretty country over there.

Good news on the turtles. Was down in Flagler Beach this past weekend and just missed (by one day!) a sea turtle nest hatching. I've caught the female coming in from the beach before, but have never witnessed the hatchlings heading out to sea. Maybe one day!

Update on Cleveland Public School Teachers Strike set for Sept. 1st:

Still trying to avert strike, doesnt look real good 'yet'.

Local Newspaper has given parents a # to call for latest updates.

We are being told 'if' strike happens NOT to send children to school.

Lil girl in 1st grade found raped and murdered by 'friend' of family.

No sign of Shrubya or Gorey (thats for K)

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), August 29, 2000.

henrietta, do not listen to the Bull Shit, Headlines and such. it may be true in your own country. While we beat our breast, rattle our saber, our blood runs red, as does yours. By the way, we citizens are armed. Most folks have no ill will towards another nation, unless fueled by a Politician, so let that Politician stand up, for the conflict and explain it, during their term.
