Using LF lenses on a P6x7

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

This is just out of curiousity.

Has anyone thought of a way to use a bellows unit as to enable Large format lenses to be used on the Pentax 6x7 ? Seems like a good way to get tilt/shift options.

This has always interested me because of the better focal ratios available on view lenses. An f/45 ratio on say a 47mm lens would have the DOF I sometimes need. On second thought, most view lenses are symmetrical and so the shorter focal length's image would not clear the mirror box and could not be used. A 210mm with f/64 would be great. Maybe the auto bellows could be adapted in the front to accept a view lens by using a bored out rear lens cap from the view lens. View lenses would probably have to be over 100mm to be able to clear the mirror box.

I did exactly what you describe using an old ('20's) lens liberated from a non-working 6x9 folding camera (the lens covers 4x5). I used a body-cap as a lens mount, first drilled a large hole in it then went to the router table and enlarged the hole. My first attempt at connecting the lens to the lens mount was a failure. My idea was to have the lens mounted on a flexible rubber snoot that I could tweak to get the focus (or lack of focus) that I was after. I tried cutting sheets of rubber glued with cement to make a snoot but the whole thing was unwieldy and ugly. Then I remembered the shift knob boot in my '72 VW and made a trip to the autoparts store. Well, about $30 later I now have a new favorite lens, have used it on a few editorial jobs, and love the affect. I am on my second generation lens, about 2 stops brighter than the first. The current lens is easier to use (brighter) and results in less depth of field. Not sure if I can post picture to this list...but let me know if you want to see the monster. This did not result in a mini-field camera, but that was not the result i was after.

There is one available. The Horseman View Camera Converter. Last I checked the B&H site I thought there was a Pentax 67 adapter now available. Trouble is if I recall correctly the shortest LF lens that can be used is a 150mm. That eliminates normal and wide angle focal lengths. The unit sold in the $1.5k range making it a rather expensive toy.

You can make an adapter to fit the Pentex 67 to a view camera back standard, then you can use all the view camera function and lens which from 150MM. or longer. Sammy Cheung

Sinar used to make exactly that kind of adapter Sammy Cheung describes.
