An answer to prayer, and a goodbye, for a while

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

I've not been in here much in the last little bit. Been way too busy with things happening here. Some time back I asked a few of you to lift us up in prayer, in the search for a place of full-time ministry. It's finally come about.

On September 3rd, I join the ministry staff at Broad Creek Christian Church, in New Bern, North Carolina, as associate minister with focus on worship/music and adult education. It's a congregation that's been around on that site, since about 1845, and is well-steeped in scriptural teaching and Restoration Movement understanding. We are well and truly stoked to be joining this fine group of Christians, who are just in the edge of being ready to explode out into growth and excitement about the church and her ministry in the world.

Thank you for your prayers, and thank you for the time spent on this forum. I'll be much too busy for a while to look in much, but I should be able to stick my nose in now and then, just to see whose ox is being gored at the moment.

(Since I won't be here much to see any replies, e-mail is always accepted -- samloveall@prodigy.net.)

(Connie, I haven't forgotten.)

Brother Sam:

You are a good, wise, kind and faithful Christian man and I am happy that God has answered our prayers on your behalf and I am certian that you will do good for the cause of Christ in North Carolina. You know they say "nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning"! Ha! There is a very special event every year in "Black Mountain" North Carolina that I know you would enjoy if you have the opportunity to attend. It is known as the "Blue Ridge Encampment". It has been going on for more than 60 years, I think. Men like B. C. Goodpasture, Guy N. Woods, and Ira North, and Gus Nichols, Thomas Warren and many others have gone there and given the "fireside chats" every evening and the speakers are often very scholarly and edifying. I do not know if it is a good as it was several years ago but it is something that I believ eyou would enjoy and therefore recommend it to you. I am certain that you will enjoy the beautiful cool and comfortable scenes at Black Mountain.

Now, I must say this lest someone claim that I prayed for you to go to a congregation that uses instruments and I am therefore inconsistent. I prayed for YOU, Brother Sam. I pray that your influence will edify the church even if you are never convinced to turn from the use of instruments in the worship. I will work to persuade the Brethren to change in that regard, and if I fail well I at least tried to help. But I refuse to let this keep me for praying for you that you might have the opportunity to serve God. I pray that you will do it faithfully, as I am sure is your intention and prayer as well.

I will miss you Brother Sam and plead for you speedy return.

Your Brother in Christ,

E. Lee Saffold
