excessive vomiting problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

I have had a beautiful Maine Coon black and white smoke neutered male cat for eight years now. He's absolutely wonderful and I love everything about him. I got him from a private breeder I met at a cat show and mostly he seems to be healthy. I am wondering if anyone has had a problem similar to mine and has any advice: All his life my cat has vomited a lot. Three veterinarians can find nothing really wrong with him physiologically. He lives strictly indoors and the only thing he occasionally ingests that he should not is kitty litter in small quantities. I know long hair cats are prone to hairballs but he not only vomits hairballs occasionally but his food mostly. He vomits anywhere from once every 3 weeks to sometimes 3 times in one week. I give him hairball remedy but it doesn't make a lot of difference. One vet suggested he might have the feline version of "irritable bowel syndrome" or maybe just a sensitive stomach. Any thoughts out there? Thank you...

Our cat had the same problem and the local veterinarians could find nothing wrong with him. We took the cat for a third opinion and another test confirmed that he was suffering from hyperthyroid condition. Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism are: excessive drinking, panting, dirahea. We had our cat treated effectively with removal of the thryoid tumor and now he is fine. Max's Mom
