HUGHES THE ANSWER

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Just got in from the game and I think Aaron Hughes was outstanding at centre half. He proved again that he is quality in the centre and not as a left back. Centre Half is his best position so lets keep him there Sir Bob. Given had another sound game and dyer was excellent. Wasnt the best all round performance but points on the board are all that matters at this stage.

I partly agree with you SMB - he's part of the answer.

I also thought he did well tonight - apart from rather unluckily getting turned for their first goal. For me he makes fewer mistakes than any of the other CB's, plays it simple, and is more dependable.

I'd be happy to see him stay at CB, but we must get a commanding centre half to play alongside him.

I like Hughes, and would stick woth him. You would have thought Goma would have tried a bit harder to impress, I think there's a good in him somewhere, but when is it going to appear?

I'm not sure that he is quality in the centre, but I agree with Clarky that he makes less mistakes than most. If we played someone along side him that gave out a bit of confidence I think he would benefit greatly. I'm not sure that centre half is his best position, and am more concerned that he ends up as the next Steve Watson. That said, I rate him and think he should be playing regularly. I suppose there's the chance that he could fill for Barton if we have enough fit cebtre halves.
