Hello, I've just d/l these codecs, are they any good at what they do?

AngelPotion Codec

I have a 1.5gb ATIVCR2 codec AVI, i'd like to run through VirtualDub using a third party codec, so has anyone any experience with these new-fangled types?

Thanks a lot,

Andy

Andy,

I have worked with angelPotion Codec build 459, and it is basically a DivX/Mpeg4v3 codecs. It is a little faster then DivX and definitely much faster then Mpeg4(MS-ASF), but the quality does not impress me when comparing to DivX or ASF. I believe there are newer build released already, but i have never gone back to test them out. I am happy with DivX.

I too am using ATI All In Wonder to capture video with the ultimate goal of making a VCD. I'm having a similar problem with the captured formats available with ATI. Does anyone have an idea on how to make a VCD, SVCD or DivX using AIW from a VHS tape? I appreciate any help as I am just a mere novice. Thanks Jerry

Here is how you do it.

1. Use Virtual Dub version 1.3C ( This one drop less frame during captures ). 2a. Download DivX codecs, not AngelPotion codecs. 3. Open up ATI television and set your capture settings to best and select yuy2 packed data at 352x240 frame size. Close it. 4. Open up Virtual Dub select Capture AVI. 5. Video menu - select compression internal - choose Divx low motion - set I frame for every 2 seconds - choose bitrate at 1500-1800 kbps (This bitrate gives you the best video output for 2 hours @ 2.6Gig). 6. Choose video menu - format - choose yuy2 packed data - frame size at 352x240. 7 Choose video menu - clipping - select your clipping to remove the annoying VCR headers at the bottom of the video ( anywhere from 4 to 6 pixels ). 8. Choose Audio menu - choose 48Khz 16bit stereo. 9. Choose File menu - Select where you are saving your capture file and give it a name. 10. Now Choose Capture menu - Settings - put 60 for video buffer, 4 for audio buffer limit, and 0 for audio buffer size. Now select your ATI capture driver for the default. Check all the boxes and save it. All the settings you have set now will be default when you re-enter capture menu. All except the clipping part! You have to reset it everytime. 11. Press F6 (Capture Internal) to capture your video. Press Esc to stop capture. Note: Don't select anything else on the desktop during capture, because it will abort the capture! 12. Download TMPEGENc1.2b to convert this DivX AVI to VCD using CQ (65%) @ 4000kbps video bitrate. The result will be equivalent to SVCD/DVD using mpeg1 format!

Good luck
