Bit of respect for an all time great......

He played for both us and the Makems and although it was too long ago for me, some on here will no doubt have seen him play, particularly for the Makems.

You can't knock class.

I still have Len`s autograph, not for when he played for us or !!!!!!! Apart from being a smashing footballer he was also a very competitive cricket player, he was in the summer season resident professional for Wearmouth, a good all rounder and utterly fearless when fielding, this in the days before protective equipment was availible, he invented a new position, not silly mid on, more like manical mid on. I watched him a few times, the most memorable being from where Steph sends her reports, The Tyneside Senior League -v- Durham Senior League where he was outstanding with bat and ball, pity that Riverside Clive did not get on line, he would have a barrowload of stories about The Clown Prince of Soccer, younger viewers who have not read his book I urge you to do so, a gem of its time, especially the chapter titled "The Average Directors Knowledge of Football" >>Blank pages, get well Len, one of the best

Agree 100% Buff. Saw him a few times at the end of his playing career. Even I could appreciate a makem taking the p*ss out of some of the then current star defenders - lumbering cloggers most of them, really.

That six goal first game must have been something to see.

Get well soon Len.

Hey Buff - there's a coincidence. I've got an autographed copy of "Clown Prince of Soccer" (1955 original). The guy was way ahead of his time!
