Dyer to Arsenal

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

It just went across on Bloomberg that Dyer has been the subject of an #8 million pound bid from Arsenal. Is this good business or should we hold onto him? Martym

Apparently weve told them to double it .. hmmm .

If Arse are prepared to bid #8M then he's worth a lot more. They've still (presumably) got money burning a hole in their pocket after selling Overmars and Petit. They're likey to have more when Vierra decides to pack it in.

On the other side, we're having trouble finding a role for Dyer. YBR might just decide he's dispensable if he gets enough to fund the purchase of a quality defence and/or midfield. A tough one to call. Make it #12M and I'd be tempted but only if we already have a target earmarked. But even so, he's a young 'un and worth holding on to for the future.

Ouch - my bum hurts. These fences aren't very comfortable.

I think in the current market he could command a fee of around 12 million. Maybe Bobby has become so frustrated at the boys drinking habits that he's had enough.

I think we should keep him though, outstanding talent and he's English. Surely Bobby can nurture him into a central midfield genius.

At least the lad injects abit of pace and inventiveness when he plays. Surely a player of his talent should be starting every game. I don't agree with this idea that it's difficult to find a position for him, just put him on the pitch and let him play. That would be enough for me Martym

Keep him. He will be worth double that come the end of the season. Plus he is for the future, nuture him into a playmaker and he will be running England's midfield in three years' time. Then we should be looking at offers of 20 or 30 m then.

What we need from the club now is a statement issuing a strong rebuke to Arsenal, if they have made an offer, which is debatable.

Is was reading this story on the Sun's Supergoals site and saw this in the same passage:

Meanwhile, Robson is taking Belarus international Sergei Gurenko on a two-week trial with view to a #2.5m move.

Roma's left-sided utility man, who joined the Italian club from Lokomotiv Moscow last season, has failed to make an impression in Serie A.

I've heard of him before can anybody remember waht he's like...reports from the training ground??

Re Gurenko, I know nowt about him but I'm always a bit wary when a player's billed as 'utility'.

Dyer would only play a bit part in Arsenal games a bit like he does for us now! I'd think he'd be better off career wise staying with us.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Newton Heath came in for him if they realised he is for sale, after Lord Ferg's comments on Sunday.

Sorry folks, but one of my hobby horses is just galloping into view.

This agency role in the furtherence of players' careers is most definitely NOT the attitude of a massive club. We'll only really be massive when other clubs see us in the same light as Manu - a class player becomes available and you know for a fact that if Manu want him, that's where he'll end up. It's pathetic that we lose out on one player because the transfer of another is held up. Massive ? Massive my a**e.

Until we get to the stage where it's WE who raid the likes of Manu and Arse etc. for promising players, we'll stay second rate also- rans.

I only hope it's business driven, and eventually, BR will get p****d off enough to make a stand.

I mean the likes of Gazza and Best etc were always nutters, but it was only in the later stages of their careers it became an unbearable problem. Surely they can put up with any social failings Dyer might have, if that is a problem, as long as he delivers on the day.

I reckon supporting the Mags is a bit like being married to a wife beater - they very often leave you feeling like s***e, to put it mildly, but they're embedded so deep, you have to keep coming back for more.

Oops, me tub's just collapsed.

Rumours flying around on this story. Robson unhappy with Dyer, Dyer unhappy with Robson. What was Kieron's reason for watching the stiffs last night, genuine interest or a meeting with YBR?

Come on Bobby, don't let him go, you can make him great. You didn't give up on Hristo Stoichkov, did you?

Boss issues 'hands-off' Dyer warning ^top

Bobby Robson has issued a furious 'hands-off' warning to Arsenal, who are considering an eight million pounds bid for the England starlet. Newcastle have moved quickly to head off any official approach from Arsenal for Kieron Dyer, after early morning reports suggested the Gunners were ready to move for the England midfielder. TEAMtalk sources indicate that Arsenal have made contact with Dyer's representatives in a bid to snatch him against Newcastle's will. But the Magpies are confident they can nip the matter in the bud because Dyer is not nearly so unsettled as some reports suggest. Indeed, Robson revealed that Dyer approached him on Monday to deny talk that he is unhappy at United. On the surface, the situation is ominously reminiscent of Arsenal's approach for Dietmar Hamann last summer, which ultimately resulted in the German international deciding his future lay away from Tyneside. But Robson is utterly insistent that Dyer will stay at Newcastle, saying: "Kieron Dyer is a little gem of a player. He is the future of Newcastle United and he is going nowhere. "We have had no contact from Arsenal or anyone else for that matter - but if there was, let me tell them they are all wasting their time. "To put it quite simply, Kieron Dyer is not for sale. Don't forget we are one of the biggest clubs in the country, so why should anyone want to leave here?'' Dyer was understandably upset at being left out of United's starting eleven at Manchester United on Sunday and is still living down his X- rated summer shenanigans on holiday in Cyprus. But Robson insisted: ``In the last three days I have seen players of the calibre of Denis Bergkamp, Michael Owen, Lauren, Robert Pires and Kanu sitting on the bench. "That's the way football is these days. It's no longer a game of 11 men.

Dats ma boy!

Apparently this Gurenko is a Central defender who can also play in midfield, according to the Ronnie. He will be arriving for a two week trial shortly.

Two week trial should be enough to see what he can do.

But if he loses out on the trail, will he have costs awarded against him :-))

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

If he loses out on the trail he will surely be lost. :0)

No no no no No!

If NUFC lose Dyer, that might be to much for me at the moment. It's bad enough when we can only identify 5 English players at NUFC who will potentially be at the club in 5 years; Harper, Griffin, Dyer, Cort and Coppinger.

Yeah we have quite a few promising bairns in the reserve team, but only two of them are English, Green and Coppinger. The rest are almost all Scotish.

Totally agree with you Tre - it would be folly to let Dyer go. I for one will be disappointed if he does, he`s young and he has a future. The only qualification I would make is that he has to want to stay with NUFC - otherwise there would be no point in him being there.(:o)
