greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

LR has dished out and received a lot of incoming flak of late to the extent of veiled threats that he should be barred from the board. We should at times look inwards at ourselves, for instance we have well respected members of this forum have been known to visit other boards under assumed names to stir up the proverbial, come in Mag Trout your time is up!!at least some of us know LR, we know his background, he leads with his chin. As to where he is coming from that is more difficult to understand, I have got him as from the East Neuk of Scotland, tenious ties to Northern Ireland, formative years in Lancaster, now domiciled in Coventry (3 years in Canley myself) and after stirring that lot together, add a little sea-time in and you got a Man U supporter, so what I personally can handle that, not a big deal at all. It works both ways but for someone who has been on the BBs for a while its easy to understand when the debate goes back to the old chestnuts, attendances, records, plastic supporters etc that some on here feel we have been down that road before, but also remember that newcomers or occassional lurkers may be enthralled by it all. I have never met Andy, I have met Screacher, I like Screacher, Screacher says Andy is okay, my world is simple, I like people. But if our friend LR upsets the good ladies on here I am a aul fashioned sod, I will smack him, no I shall rephrase that, I will hold him down, let Steph land him one, Galaxy will then get to work with a bamboo cane on the backs of his legs, Jacko will apply the coup de grace, smother him with her football knowledge , transport the now ex Man U supporter to Jay`s where he will be buried under her floorboards she has just newly laid, Dougal will sweep for evidence and the Rev Jonno, cureall of the Gallowgate Parish will say a few words. Seriously folks if LR moved from here he would be a miss, it takes all kinds in small doses, like someone else said, its fine to get a new perspective, as long as they stay within the guidelines, for me LR and Dancin Dave (can you hear me) are welcome. For hells sake read some of the other boards, Strawbeery is improving, take out Joe, Nobby, Jay ,Homer and Jack Carter and that`s it, while the RTG is just musical hall one liners and falls far short of what we have here, So LR, from a lower deck lawyer, lifes not all about your team on here, feel free to tell us about yourself, get on Jays week-end thread, you know what Andy, I really think you like us lot but your so bliddy agressive you cannae show it, let it out pal, Cost of advice as per Dougals rate, pay on your way in, cos I dinna want ye oot, Buff

Ok....here's the score...I like ladies..no..I do...I'm a lover of fine art...but fer some reason it's very easy for them to be wound up by me. I even like that other lady....he's alright is Jonno. I like the way he operates. Unfortunately I find it difficult to remain within the strict de-facto self policed guidlines as set on this here forum. I don't like dissin' certain folk who I know are mates with other certain folk....who I happen to be pally with....it can make life difficult. I have seen a change of behaviour in the way I conduct my self over here and I will endeavour to alter course becasue collisions are imminent. I will always look for argument and counter argument...I will always defend the good name of my club and our supporters, I will always rip- the-piss outa scousers and I will do me best to keep it all transparent. Most and I mean MOST of it is anyway. If I'm being perceived as getting slightly personal them I'll go in for a bit of a refit....

Diving now!

Great posting Buff! I think you summed things up beautifully. One small point of order though, and I am speaking purely for myself here, LR hasn`t upset or offended me. I did jump the gun once and respond to a `bird` comment he made, but quickly realised he was deliberately winding us ladies up, and I believe that thread ended with some good natured leg pulling. If I read him incorrectly, and he was serious, it doesn`t really worry me either. Everyone is entitled to their own opionion, and it would take a lot more than that to send me flouncing away from the BBS in tears.

I`ve noticed one or two postings in a similar vein Buff, and it warms the cockles of my heart to see that chivalry is not a thing of the past. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that under that tough exterior, LR is just dying to join in on one of my enthralling rose- pruning and dog-showing threads - you mark my words, by the end of the season we will be exchanging receipes! (:o)

Ah-ha! I was composing while LR was posting, which makes my posting kind of surplus to requirements! Nice to know that I was reading the situation correctly though.(:o)

If you do want to hound him out, then make it after we play NH at Home, because I owe the man beer after Sunday ;-)

Aye Softus Maximus ..you do indeed..you do indeed :-)

Keep it up Lanky, and everyone else too!! I don't post too much but I read this board a lot, and I do pi$$ mesel laughing at the more than obvious wind-ups and counter wind-ups. Good crack lads and lasses, just have to keep it in perspective. I do see lots of honest debat and discussion and yes even some arguments. Isn't that what this board is all about. Love it.

Pete

OOPs!! Should have read "honest debate and discussion". Haven't had a good "debat" in a long time.

" The fish that does not rise to the bait lives to see the fisherman f@*k off home" Sea gulls and trawlers blah blah

Meself?

I find LR a bit of a giggle and good entertainment.

Pete..honestly mate..you'd actually be surprised at how namy of my leaders are actually wind-ups....I just didn't realise how subtle some of them must have been. I've been sussed by one or two who I did enjoy baiting.....Softie being the main one:-)...even Swift..although I think Ollie has been found wanting recently :-)

Over at m-u-f-c.co.uk..we have a Geordie regular...a singular poster just like me....the similarities of us lone mariners are incredible....as Min ITK or Jonno would PROBABLY say..."he's a c*nt too I suppose" :-)

I know Lanky, I think I,ve been in Canada too long, no disrespect to my new Countrymen but the humour here just isn,t the same. I do love a good wind up, and can usually still spot them from far far away. Like I said mate, keep it up. Like the saying goes..."Hook, Line and Sinker", someone will always bite.

LR is adorable in a "quite often wanna kick his teeth in" way. I have reason to know that beneath the controversy beats a heart of gold. Right annoying bugger at time, though..

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

I wasn't going to say anything on this but i've been baited enough to respond... ; o )

I'd just like to see a few more manners and some respect for other people's opinions from LR, that's all.

The wind-ups aren't funny or clever- they're just childish. And we can do without it. THAT's why this BBS is a success.

Tee hee. That made me laff min. U gonna be there tomorrow? Strawbs?

-- Anonymous, August 22, 2000

We should club up and get LR one of OUR season tickets. He could be our first Newton Heath style supporter. :o))

Can't be Pit Bill, he doesn't live in the Home Counties!

Hey Min...respect is earned...as the following few choices from many on here

Screacher

Buff

Softie

Dougal

Pilgrim

folk like that...very very short on thier bandwaggon anti-Man Yew fans sentiments. They all have them...but they use them as and when required.

The wind-ups?...ignore them ya divvy.

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000

Oi Min..one more thing before I put you in the IGNORE box ...what makes this BBS a success amongst other things is the contentious issues raised by contributors like me. I have...without a doubt...seen this bbs in a state of tumbleweedesque quietness on a few occasions...untill I threw in a few bangers..and POW!!! a bbs that's on fire again. Not all the time..I ain't trumpet blowing...just spreading the Gospel.......The Religion.

:-)

Pit Bull...haven't U got any "NH" type fans then...U know...loyal fans that STICK with their club. Fans that can be seen all over the world following their club. Fans that will get tickets ANYHOW and for any "end" if required. Clued-up fans ITK.

:-)

Yeah LR, you keep this place ticking over and you tie everyone in knots with your wit & knowledge, I know you told us, I believe you thousands wouldn't. Ipswich any good or just lucky?

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000

Never once mentioned wit mate...never once mentioned knowledge either. Is having "knowledge" a prerequisit of being a top fan.

I do have knowledge as it happens..I've learnt that the sinking of the Mary Rose was most probably down to Henry's alterations to his ship. See? :-)

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000

Was it Jacko on here the other day...all full of knowledge who said the Nevilles, Scholes, Beckham, Wallwork and Butt were NOT home grown players cos they were not all BORN in Manchester....lol..

Oh THE KNOWLEDGE on here..I'm humbled ...lol..

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000

LR

you said it...respect is earned.

FINALLY you understand...

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000

Min....I don't want or need your respect. I've read your postings.....you had your eyes shut in the70's and 80's wrt Manchester United and the fans. Go away now please.

-- Anonymous, August 23, 2000

LR
I obviously used the right bait with that cast.

Of course we do. In fact I'd say there'll be a load who'd probably be classed much better supporters than I'll ever be, using your criteria, The forty years of underachievement, with the odd exception, I've experienced as a Mag have had a slightly disillusioning effect.

A cliche's only a cliche because it's apt, and 'Here we go again' fits perfectly to describe my supporting experience. I'm probably too old for the excitement to be good for me if we ever DO start to go places. so really the Mags are doing me a personal favour, bless them. :-/
