WE`RE BACK THEN!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This is beginning to make me a bit nervous - is there a problem with Greenspun?

Great to be back up and running though! Loads to talk about - but it`s half past midnight - so I shall leave it until tomorrow!(:o)

Pretty bad form not having a matchday thread for the first match of the season though! (:o)

Missed you today.

Saw the match at 8:00 am Pacific Time on Pay per View. I didn't think we were nearly as bad as the commentator did. Who was he? He kept referring to the Toon as 'them', which should have been my first clue that this lad was not going to be a model of journalistic impartiality. Still, having said that, we were pretty comprehensively beaten. Cort and Big Al were virtually invisible, Barton seemed to work hard, Given made a number of outstanding saves, and that was about it. Nobby looked lost when he came on and Dyer had one or two touches but otherwise was a non-factor.

Still, at least it's not a home defeat to West Ham with Big Al given his marching orders.

You should've heard the commentary and coverage on Sky!

1 hour BEFORE kick-off you could be forgiven for thinking there was only one team playing.

That was the most appaling piece of broadcasting i've ever seen.

anyway, for those who missed it - we weren't very good. no impetus or movement. Glad it's out of the way.

Worse coverage than the idiot we had in the States?? I think I'd have shot myself! I think Martin Tyler was our announcer, though I'm not absolytely sure. With the amount of drooling he did in the last 20min I thought he was going to short out his microphone or drown himself. Either would have been far more entertaining. ;-)

Solano didn't do too bad in defense. Too bad he's not actually a defender! Howay, Bobby! Forget the chase for more strikers...we need strong defenders! In his postmatch comments, Bobby did admit that he was probably wrong to play Cort and Cordone out of their favored positions. He also sounded relieved to have this one out of the way and said that our season can now begin. I like that thought! :-)

Roger me! There you are! Anyway........... Commentators; don't ya' just love 'em? Fawning, arse kissing, tossers that they are. I swear I'm going to have a wobbler the next time one of them calls Newton Heath "United". It's unforgiveable at any time but when they are playing another United well, words fail me. They've been the media's team ever since that aeroplane crashed and I guess we're stuck with it until something of a stock market nature goes wrong for them and they vanish up their own egos.

At least that game is out of the way.

I turned the damn TV off at half-time, not because we were bad but, solely because the commentator was running out of superlatives for 'Heath - I think it was Martin Tyler?!

:-((

lol...not a bad idea. I probably should have turned the sound off and put the webcast sound up.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Greenspun's problems seem to be worsening. I wonder if it's once again the mighty Geordie public taking up too much bandwidth ?

It's perhaps time for the clever people amongst us - that counts me out then - to start the search for HMS Communicata Mark III ??

Until then (or until the problems go away) I for one intend only posting when I have something earth-shatteringly poignant or original to say. Well that puts paid to me then - I'll be the one lurking in the background sucking on a huge gob stopper.

Off into exile again ..... ;o))

I always watch tyhe sky pics with metro radio commentary. I got very bored with the blatant partizanship of the sky team where newton heath are concerned and the metro lads are just biased enough towards the toon to make it worthwhile

What do we expect? All week the game has been advertised as "Manchester United v Newcastle .........". Fawning tossers!

I totally agree Clarky, Hairy Cornflake Richard Keys mentioned Newcastle United once or twice but soon reverted to the script.

You'd think with all that money they'd get the basics right.
