How many flashcards/how much memory?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have ordered a Canon Powershot A50, the NB-5H power pack, & two extra rechargable batteries. I am an experienced amateur SLR/photographer. But digital is new to me & the concepts are momentarily vague. I want to try using this digicam supplementally on an upcoming shoot. I want to have plenty of flashcard memory so I may shoot with impunity & store the images in raw form. Will I be happier with several flashcards with the largest # of MB, or does it work out somehow to be more useful to have a larger number of small MB flashcards? I must order these cards quickly, then take off to the shoot--learning the system "on the fly" you might say. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help! Phaedra

Phaedra--order a few of the largest cards you can get. Altho there is come validity to the 'all your eggs in one basket' philosophy, I believe we're more likely to drop, lose, damage, etc. a card changing one than to have one fail while in the camera.
